The reason HB 875 is so potentially damaging is its similarity to the National Animal Identification System. This extreme regulatory process is intended to track the activities of every livestock animal in the US (including people who own a few chickens). The cost of which will put small farms out of business and reward agribusiness for their failures in food safety. HB 875 is the same process targeted specifically for produce.
The reality is that there is no proof that this level of tracking will make our food safer. And the small farmers, who have not caused any of the food based illnesses, will end up disappearing...which leaves big agribusiness as the monopoly it wants to be.
