DO YOU BELIEVE NICK SCHUYLER'S ACCOUNT?

March 09, 2009 09:48 AM EDT (Updated: March 09, 2009 09:51 AM EDT)

The lone survivor of last weekend's boating tragedy talked to ESPN last night.  Nick Schuyler told a harrowing tale on how a storm overpowered the 21 foot vessel they were in while anchored 30-some miles in the Gulf of Mexico.  He, NFL players Corey Smith and Marques Cooper and South Florida alum Will Bleakley left Clearwater, Florida at 6 am for a weekend getaway.

They reached their destination to do deep water fishing.  Immediately after landing, they encountered a storm.  Cooper's vessel was ladened with a foam interior which made it buoyant.  The chances of it sinking was slim.  All four donned on life jackets and braced for turbulent waters.  Unfortunately, they underestimated Mother Nature's power.  The craft capsized.  The men struggled to hold on to an overturned boat.  After 36 hours, each participant lost their grip and drifted out to sea.  A Coast Guard plane found him clinging to the vessel hours later.

Doctors determined Schuyler had extreme hypothermia, exhaustion and hunger from being out two days without food.  He was compelled to drink salt water while holding on to the disabled boat.  He literally watched his friends slowly freeze to death in the cold Gulf.

The four men were all experienced fishermen and excellent swimmers.  They were also very fit considering Smith and Cooper actively played in the National Football League.  They were all on the boat at once when it capsized.  How did it happen?  Did Schuyler reveal the whole story?

The Coast Guard ended their search for survivors after three days.  They refused to even go and try to recover bodies.  The victims' friends and family attempted to search on their own.  But, they didn't have the technology and resources to do a thorough run of around 30,000 square miles of water.  Why didn't the Coast Guard use night-vision googles or infrared scopes to locate warm body temperature.  Surely, Cooper, Smith and Bleakley's temps were warmer than a 30 degree body of ocean.  Schuyler's temp was 89 degrees when they pulled him out.  For whatever reason, Coast Guard officials felt that searching for two, African-American athletes and their companion wasn't worth any more time.  They dropped the ball.

How did it happen?  I always believed that finding the bodies would tell the tale.  From the outset, this "accident" has cried for an inquiry.  Schuyler's "tale of woe" shouldn't be gravitated so quickly by the public.  Three men died in mysterious circumstances.  They weren't drunk at the time.  They weren't using drugs at the time.  They deep-sea fished several times during the offseason before.  They knew about how to survive rough weather.  The victims' families, the NFL and their team of attorneys have to be outraged by the laissez-faire attitude of the Coast Guard by not searching the Gulf for Cooper's, Smith's and Bleakley's bodies.  Their remains deserved a proper burial.  They didn't deserve to be a buffet choice for hungry sharks and other predators.

In my opinion, Schuyler lied.  And, he got away with it.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I doubt he would have risked his own life if he had anything to do with their being lost. Seasoned fishermen should have done a thorough weather check before going that far out on the gulf.

A member of the Weathermen Underground was killed trying to blow up a police station. Schuyler probably became a victim of his own subtefuge.

This is plain stupid. You really want to blame someone, don't you?

You want to blame the survivor, who managed to hang on a bit longer than the others which is typical in lost at sea rescues. There is always one (or more) survivors that outlast others.

You want to blame the Coast Guard for what? For not using infrared scopes? You think those Coast Guard pilots were just out there flying around and not using all the equipment they had to try to find those people? Not searching for more than three days for people floating in water that there is no chance they could survive in for more than a couple of days? How much do you think a full blown Coast Guard air search costs the taxpayers? How would you justify that when the statistical possibility for anyone surviving longer than they conducted the search was zero?

Lastly, you want to make it a racist thing? Give it up. We have an African-American President in this country.

The people who died tragically in this incident died of a combination of their own stupidity and their own inexperience. They didn't even need to "do a thorough weather check", just a quick listen to the NOAA channel on their VHF would have given them a report of 30 knots. Commercial boats of 40 feet and longer were staying in port and these guys ran off into the Gulf in a 21 foot Everglades?

First of all, this article is complete fiction. Nick Schuyler was not on ESPN Sunday Conversation. The storm didn't immediately hit. The men were not wearing life jackets when the boat capsized. All four men didn't hang on for 36 hours. I could go on and on pointing out the incorrect details in this article.

Clearly the writer has some sort of agenda or has a screw loose.

Accidents happen and I think maybe we should just be glad there were any survivors then try to find a reason why he survived and others didn't and try to turn it into something sinister. They were not wearing life jackets, a storm was predicted and also they were not that experienced to be out in that. And everything is not a race issue.

Yikes... I've got to assume the writer play devil's advocate to get comments since it is so factually incorrect and inflamatory. It's a tragedy that those people lost their lives and to turn the victim and lone survivor into a criminal is pretty sad. I'm sure he can barely live with himself as it is.

Then, Nick Schuyler is a liar. Are you saying he was the only one to put on a life jacket while the other guys decided to play chicken with the storm?

Michael,

The same Coast Guard searched in the Caribbean for a blonde, white girl for two months. Remeber, Natalie Holloway. She had no life jacket. She left her Bible group from Alabama to go drink and do X with teenage boys in Aruba. The government spent $20 million looking for her. They also sent out FBI and Aruban authorities participated in the search.

The Coast Guard quit after three days. Why didn't they search for four days, five days, a week or even two weeks? Of course, the sailors are dead. Didn't they deserve a proper burial? Yea, race has plenty to do with my theory!

marcus,
Do you believe Elvis is still alive too. This article is so rediculous I almost decided not to comment. Natalie Hollaway was a suspected kidnap victim... on land, a foreign land. The Coast Guard wasn't even involved in that case.

How physically fit these men were is irrelevent. Once hypothermia sets in, you are doomed unless recued. If these men were guilty of anything it was being stupid enough to venture onto the ocean in a 21 foot boat. My excursions onto the ocean have been in fishing boats that were nearly a hundred feet long. And even then I thought they were kind of small. I heard they failed to raise their achor in time and that would deffenitely swamp a boat that small quickly. This was nothing but a sad accident.

Natalie Holloway wasn't kidnapped. No one took her at knifepoint or gunpoint. She left with the two boys after drinking underage at a bar. She left with them willingly and happily.

Marcus, the Natalie Holloway case was just as mysterious as this one. Sure, there are many "witness accounts" about what happened, where she went, & HOW she went, but no one except those involved will really know for sure. A suspected kidnapping of an American citizen on foreign soil is of course bound to be a "bigger deal" than men who are lost at sea when their boat capsized. The search for Natalie went on because there was a hope that she was still alive. In the case of these poor men, given that their companion was found in such deteriorated condition, the likelihood of their being found alive after even longer was & is basically nil.

I think it is ridiculous to automatically suspect this man JUST because he is the one who survived. It is absolutely not unheard-of for even the most experienced boaters/fisherman to run into trouble & capsize/have accidents. Freak waves & weather conditions happen on open water more often than people might think. Stop being so suspicious... it must take a lot of energy!

Interesting take. As much as some are complaining about your theory, the thing is there are people out there who believe this.

I don't think race at all played a role in the coast guards decision to stop the search, nor do I think Nick Schuyler tried to kill his friends. But, I do wish the coast guard spent more time looking for the others. Schuyler survived longer than they expected, but they gave up looking for the others just a day or two (I'm not sure of the exact time) after finding the survivor. Miracles can happen. I think I could have spent a bit longer looking because it was possible they could have been found.

Also, I have to say this can't quite be compared to Natalie Holloway because her disappearance happened on land, so it did warrant a longer search. However, if she hadn't been a pretty blond girl, it wouldn't have gotten the media attention.

Also, thank you for proving my point about the Coast Guard's folly. They recovered Schuyler without fear of him dying of hypothermia. Why didn't they take a couple more days to search for the others? But, I guess if people like you make excuses for their half-ass effort, why should they go above and beyond their duty?

Nick's version of events is somewhat questionable and I feel it bears further investigation. That said, I don't suspect foul play.

The only tangible thing on overturned boat to hang onto was the propeller. My guess is that Nick maintained his position at the propeller while the others had only the sides of the boat to hang onto. and probably spent more time in the water than Nick If that is the case then it makes sense they would succumb to hypothermia faster than Nick and the Will.

The theory that they took off their lifejackets is possible too. I say that because of an experience I had a few years ago when jet skiing. I was out and fell off in rough surf. As soon as I emerged from the water and before I could take a breath I was knocked back underwater by another wave but this time I had a mouth full of water. This happened about 4 of 5 times. When the water calmed down for a minute I was breathless from being knocked around and all the water I swallowed. When I looked around for the jetski it was moving farther away from me. I tried swimming over to it to get back on. The jacket I had on was too big for me and every time I lifted my arm to begin swimming, the jacket moved up around my neck and I couldn't move properly to swim. In my frustration I started to take the jacket off thinking it was holding me from getting to the jetski before it was swept away. My brother who happened to be nearby but just outside the surf saw what I was trying to do and screamed for me not to take the jacket off. He told me to calm down and wait. The surf eventually brought the jetski back near me so I could get on. I was never in any real danger because my brother was nearby and so were about a dozen other jetskiers.

Later when we got back and my brother and I talked about it, he scolded me for trying to take the jacket off. I told him it impeded me swimming. He told me I was wrong for doing that and that I panicked. He told me the idea is not to swim but to float to let the jacket do its job. He also told me I was fighting the jacket and wearing myself out. Had I been out alone and taken that jacket off he said I would have been swept out to sea and drowned. The lesson I too from that experience was to make sure I wear the correct size jacket (I'm a woman and the jacket was too large for me), not to ever fight the jacket, to be calm and wait because the current would bring the vessel back to me and I could get back on safely. We were talking about the NFL players yesterday and he reminded me of what I did that day and said most likely they panicked and did the same thing that I almost did. They were probably knocked off the boat by a wave and since it is difficult to swim in a lifejacket they probably took the jacket off thinking they could swim back to the boat and instead were swept out to sea.

The point of all this is to point out two possible scenarios of what may have happened.

Marcus,

You get dumber and dumber.

The same Coast Guard didn't search the Caribbean for anyone. That case was an investigation that turned into a presumed murder investigation that was carried out by police and involved dogs, digging in landfills, draining pools, and many other attempts to try to figure out what happened to an American citizen who disappeared mysteriously.

Try to keep the race issue from clouding your every judgement. How sad you still feel so undervalued in this day when an African American can hold the most powerful office on earth as well as be mayor of my own small southern town.

The USCG continued to search for 36 hours after they found one survivor. The chances of anyone being alive after that amount of time in the water that was about 60 F were small to none. Despite you apparent misguided thought that the fact that they were physically fit football players would mean they could survive longer, the simple fact is that their lower body fat percentage would mean they would be more susceptible to hypothermia.

"They recovered Schuyler without fear of him dying of hypothermia."

When they rescued him, his core temperature was 89 F, which is .6 degree below the threshold for stage 3 hypothermia (the final stage which leads to organ shutdown and death), yet the USCG continued to search for 36 more hours.

Cooper's mistake was simply not having the proper respect for nature and the sea. He left the dock on a 21 foot boat with fast approaching weather conditions that was keeping 50 foot commercial fishing boats tied to the dock. He had been told two days before the ill fated trip to buy an EPIRB, a $400 purchase that would have saved three lives and days of expensive and inherently risky search and rescue operations.

The USCG spent 1.6 Million Dollars and other agencies, including the USAF, FWC and various local LEAs spent large amounts of money on the futile search. The search involved two C130's, two Jayhawk choppers, a 179' cutter and other USCG vessels.

That's "half-assed"?

How many of the people manning those aircraft and vessels deserve your stupid and repeated contention that they didn't try hard enough because the people missing were African American?

As for your pathetic attempts to insult everyone who disagrees with your wingnut theories, you are simply juvenile and laughable. The funniest, though, is this one, a desperate attempt to give yourself some credibility.

"To add, I was interviewed by a major, radio station for my writing. Before you comment on me, why not get past the fifth grade first."

You got no cred, give it up, son.

sounds like it was an every man for himself situation. Nick survived because he spent the least amount of time in the water compared to the others. Strange such seemingly good friends did not try more to survive together. They could have used the boat's tie line to tether themselves together & to the boat, huddled together for warmth, taken turns sitting at the prop to get out of the water. They may have all lived if they had.

Nick has to live with the guilt of keeping the best spot for himself while the others died. Karma is a b....

I lost a friend to Sea several years ago. He delivered the sailing vessels of very wealthy boat owners to ports all over the world. He raced sailboats in every regata on the planet. He did this for over 25 years. While sailing a boat to San Francisco from Hawaii, he was at the helm for his turn at "watch". His two sailing mates arose for their shift, came up top and Karl was gone. Did he fall overboard? Did he take his life into the depths? Was he drunk? Did his sailing mates have something to do with Karl's death? There are no answers. No body was found. No body washed up. A rogue wave is suspected, not fowl play. It happens. It's no one's fault.

There is certain to be an investigation into this tragedy. I believe that the foolishness of taking this small boat into unfriendly waters is the only culprit to blame. Pray for the souls of those who vanished. Rejoice for Nick's survival.

This entire posting is absurd. Nick Schuyler did not do an ESPN Sunday Conversation. Anyone reading this posting is encouraged to check out that simple fact.

And once you realize that Schuyler hsa not been interviewed by ESPN, and Mr. Brooks continues to assert that Schuyler was interviewed by ESPN...well you can read into that what you want.

Mahuya,

If I wanted to be Britney, I'd first bleach my skin. Second, I'd get a sex change pre-op and post-op. Third, I'd have my whole body shaved; including my reconstructive peekachoo (Shout out to Chelsea). Fourth, I'd have to lose about 70 pounds (being 192 now). Fifth, I'd take voice lessons (I placed in hip-hop dance so that's taken care of.). Sixth, I'd pay someone to write my songs. Seventh, I'd do sexy videos of me dancing and groping models younger and more attractive than me. Eighth, I'd have my music company show my videos over and over to tweeners. Ninth, I'd have the radio stations worldwide overplay my bubble-gum, pop wanna-bee whore music. And finally, I'd marry my own wanna-bee, male rapper/bum.

Many thigs in this article are untrue or try to lead in a different direction that the facts
1. SCHUYLER has not given a interview
2. in a previous article the author says that WILL BLEAKLEY is bi-racial as if to say they called off the serch because of skin color .. WILL was white and they stilled called off the search .
3. The coast guard did search for another day and a half before calling off the search
4. The water temp was not 30 degrees it was mid- 60's
5. You cant drink very much SALT WATER as we all know that will dehydrate at a much quicker rate
6.the coast guard used avery asset they had , obviously the bodies were not on the surface
7. They did not try to recover the bodies , WOW ! What do you think they were searching for the 3 days the missing boater wallets and carkeys
8 They did not have their LIFE JACKET ON which was stated by schuyler and collaberated by other boaters that saw them that day
9.COOPER was experienced as a fisherman but obviously not as a boater or he would of had a EPIRP .
10.Scuyler was 4-8 hours from death accrording to the doctor .
11. He was not on the boat perched the whole time as it would be impossible with 8-12 foot waves , the weather did not clear up here untill late sunday night .
12. the media bias was for the the 2 NFL players as BLEAKLEY was barely mentioned untill his memorial service .And if not for the 2 nfl players this would of probly not made news outside of here in Florida .

John,

You're taking Schuyler's story as gospel like most of Gather. If he ever takes a lie detector test and fails, what will you say about my posting then (other than I was right)? The media bias was for "the miracle man". And, most of Gather hasn't brought up the three victims. You just contradicted your statement right there.

Trust me. The fact that Smith and Cooper played in the NFL, the media would've cared about two, black men lost at sea.

I'm the only one who remembers this as a "tragedy". Three men died. There's nothing to celebrate and the only survivor is hiding something. But, keep on believing him. I can hold it down for the minority.

LOL at your response to my comments. I'm an idiot. I'm in the fifth grade. You were "interviewed by a major radio station for your writing". Dude, you're some loser in Iowa with a z-rate blog whose only getting attention because you're posting race-bating fringe conspiracy crap on the Internet. You're so clueless it's hilarious.

Do you honestly believe that a young man took three of his friends thirty miles out in the middle of the gulf of Mexico on a 21 foot fishing boat, murdered them in cold blood, single-handedly capsized the boat, then calmly sat on the overturned boat for 46 hours in 5-15 foot, 63-degree seas for 46 hours with no EPIRB just waiting to be rescued? That was his diabolical master plan?

What exactly are you implying (other than Nick is lying, racist murderer, and that the Coast Guard are lying, reckless, careless, racist, uncaring, bastards)?

You think that everyone else is celebrating? Celebrating what exactly?

Your writing is laughable and completely unhinged and divored from reality.

I get it now.. if it would of been COREY SMITH that survived than MR BROOKS would of took it as GOSPEL ....SCHUYLER has damage to his muscles and organs and yet we are suppose to think that something is not right - also his injuries match his story as most of the time his legs were locked to the side of the boat with one leg in and one leg out which is why his legs and ankles were damged and swelled .As i said if the other families now belive the story , than it is good enough for me ....also try staying up for 45-55 hours with no sleep in freezing weather with with 10 FOOT waves crashing on you , being in pitch black dark and see how much you remember and can get 100 % accurate .. he may not get the story 100% correct as who would when your clinging for your life and delrious but to think something other than bad judgement is at play here is ridiculous ...i do like the running drugs thing though ..in a 21 foot boat out on the middle of the gulf in 8-12 foot waves - yea that makes alot of sense .

Race-bating, fringe conspiracy crap

Ron, you said all that in one mouthful? I'll give you a moment to catch your breath.

John,

Your critique is without merit and utterly ridiculous. The Coast Guard searched for three days in an area where a body could've been discovered. They gave up. They had the equipment to do it. Nick Schuyler told them the general area where his friends drifted off too right? If you believed he was telling the truth, which I never did! They found one survivor. Why didn't they try to search for more? But, one was enough right? The victims' families obviously felt they didn't do a good enough job because they went out and did their own search for about a week longer!

And Jack,

You have no posts of your own. You have nothing to add to this discussion. And since you can't bring anything new or interesting to the table, your opinion is stricken from the record.

Now, Ron.

Did you catch your breath yet? The Coast Guard could've searched and recovered Smith, Cooper and Bleakley. They didn't. They quit. Deal with it. If a pretty, blonde girl was lost at sea, they'd still be out there right now! Race, politics and economics have always played a role in what the federal government wants to accomplish. That's called life in these United States, mate. Quit living in some fantasy land like in the Wizard of Oz!

They looked for another day and a half covering 30,000 miles ..They are not the only people to be lost at sea and no it was not a WHITE - BLONDE GIRL .. it was HANDSOME '' WHITE''' YOUNG EX-COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYER ,,, and they still quit searching ... The RACE CARD will not work on this one , try something else .....btw The cooper family calleD off the search THURSDAY they looked for 2 more days not a week but after being informed of the science and facts they accepted the reality .... Marcus , try to educte yourself on the families , BRUCE COOPER released a statement to the media last thursday afternoon saying he accepted the coast guard and SCHUYLERs account and called off the search .

John,

You're making my case. And, you're making excuses for the Coast Guard. They appeared on television and called off the search. It wasn't "the families of Cooper and Smith informed us to quit searching". You're spreading an outright lie.

Tank Johnson and several other NFL players joined the Cooper and Smith clans to continue searching for the three floaters. ESPN stated about 4 days later that their search had ended.

GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT AND COME BACK TO ME LATER.

And finally, the Coast Guard quit. Corey Smith and Marquis Cooper were dead. But, they deserved to have their bodies searched and recovered. Their victims deserved that. What you said about Smith being found and... just revealed your level of intelligence.

Marcus:

Actually your "writings"--which are all found on open-source, self-publishing websites where anyone with a pulse, a computer and an Internet connection can post content--require extensive surgical removal of common sense, reason and moral courage.

Natalie Holloway was not lost at sea in a boating accident and the United States Coast Guard did not spend one second or dollar looking for her. It was in Aruba, genius. It was the Aruban Coast Guard and the Dutch Marines, with assistance from the American FBI (because it involved the investigation of the disappearance and possible murder of an American citizen).

The Coast Guard spent 3 days and over a million dollars searching 30,000 sq. miles for Smith, Cooper and Bleakley. 3 days. 30,000 square miles. That's 5,000 square miles larger than the entire state of West Virginia, and you're trying to find 3 tiny dots in a vast roiling ocean. It's next to impossible. They'll likely never be found. Why should the Coast Guard continue to waste millions of dollars to recover three dead bodies, regardless of what color they are? The need to devote their valuable time and resources to rescuing living people that are in real danger now.

Stop degrading the memories of Smith, Cooper and Bleakley by making this story all about you and your sick delusional fantasies. Let them rest in peace and let Mr. Schulyer heal from the horrors he has endured.

Ron,

You are right. But it is you who is sick and delusional in his meanings. Natalie Holloway disappeared in Aruba. Duh! However, as a viewer I was compelled to listen to her mother and stepfather for two months about her. I was sickened to watch the Coast Guard, F.B.I and U.S. Army helicopters comb a beach where an 18 year-old, Alabama teen decided to leave her Bible group at the underage bar they attended and go off with two boys to drink, do escatscy and have sex.

The federal government wasted over $20 million dollars to search for a missing, party girl. Too bad, so sad. It would've been just ducky for them to spend another $1 million to search three more days for three men, one being a father to an infant daughter with a distraught wife worrying at home. But, they didn't!

It didn't matter to them to do that. Why? Because you, Jack, William and others have apologized and pat them on the back until your hands got all sore! I won't. They are expected to do more. And, they failed.

The fact that you said and I quote "Why should the Coast Guard continue to waste millions to recover three, dead bodies regardless of what color they are?" is reprehensible and shameful. The Coast Guard gladly wastes millions of dollars tracking down drug smugglers out of South America or human traffickers out of Haiti. Why not "waste millions of dollars" recovering the bodies of dead Americans with families at home?

You sound like an absolute tool!

Jack,

Let's see. Ron said that the government spent $1 million over their days of "work". The Federal government sent U.S. Army helicopters, the Coast Guard and F.B.I. agents to assist Aruban authorities in looking for Natalie Holloway. That was over a two month period. Not too mention, who flipped the bill that allowed Natalie's mother to stay in Aruba for the whole, damn summer? I gave $20 million as a conservative figure in this economy. It was probably a lot more!

My bad. Unlike Marcus, I can admit to being wrong about something. Marcus actually believes the entire resources of the United States government should spend a week searching half the Gulf of Mexico for three dead bodies, and that if they don't, they're racist. Oh, but wait, if one of them was white, doesn't that kind of screw up at that theory? Guess they're only 66.67% racist in this case.

Funny how Marcus, even though I've asked him directly twice, does not have the stones to just come out and say what he is implying he thinks Nick actually did here. What does he think actually happened? What does he think Nick is lying about? No, he just paints a broad stroke, gutless smear on the Big White Bogey Man's reputation from behind his little computer somewhere in the safety of his little Iowa hovel of shame.

Does a little man with a coin changer stop by your cubicle and pay you a quarter every time you call someone "stupid" or an "idiot" or a "moron" or say that they "have their "head up their ass" "or an IQ of 10". That would seem to make sense, since you don't actually attempt to logically refute anyone's arguments. You just stomp your feet, repeat your vague bleats of racism and resort to childish name calling. It's quite amusing actually.

Why because it was another lie .What exactly is the COAST GUARD covering up ? that 4 inexperienced people not properly prepared for a fast moving front made a bad decision and got tipped over in their boat 35 miles offshore .

Ron,

This is just for you. I bet that Schuyler was involved in some illegal activity prior to the fishing expedition. Considering he needed a boat, I'm going to guess he was into smuggling or some sort. Or, he could've just been a drug addict needing a fix. What does a 21 foot vessel go for on the open market? Or, maybe he wanted was what in the boat? Thank Goodness, he had that storm as his fall guy, huh?

No one has ever thought that he could've incapacitated his friends (in some way) and then dropped them overboard. He said that Bleakley was clinging to the boat with him. He said that Cooper and Smith unbuttoned their life jackets and floated away. He said this. He said that. Of course, he would have us believe that he was the only one with the will to live! He was the only one with the strength to survive and hold on! Forget that the NFL players were physically fit and could swim just fine, thank you!

But, this is an opinion I have. I wasn't there. But, you weren't there too!

Are you the Big White Boogey (2 o's dipshit) man? No. You're a douchebag who can't comprehend on the possibility of something else happened, but you believe what the news tells you. I don't need a computer to tell you how much a following troll you are. But, it sure helps that I have one in my "little, Iowa hovel".

Ah, thanks for explaining. So you basically just completely made up a story about Nick based on absolutely nothing but pure conjecture and the fact that, in your mind, it COULD have happened. That says a lot about you that you think that that is enough basis on which to publicly slander someone who has just seen three people die in a horrific, slow, painful manner. Based on nothing but your wild fantastical supposition, you feel you have the right to publicly call this man a liar and rant and rave and defame his reputation. That's true character, Marcus. True class. Truly being a man. Bravo. You've done your race proud.

Marcus:

Do you even have the slightest comprehension about what hypothermia is, and what it does to a human body? Have you ever even been in a small boat in a large body of water? Have you ever been OUTSIDE of a boat, swimming, in a life vest, in large lake or in the ocean in water colder than 65 degrees? It made no difference that the men who died were strong swimmers. You can swim all you want, but if you're 35 miles offshore in 63 degree water and you don't have an EPIRB and you're not found within a couple of days, you will die. 100% of the time. I've done sailboat races that lasted only a couple of hours where I had full foul weather gear on and was only partially in the water and the air temperature was 65 degrees outside. Afterwards, I had to sit in my car for 20 minutes with the heater on before I thawed out. These guys were in 63 degree water in street clothes for hours upon hours upon hours before they eventually become too numb to hold on to the boat in the violent seas. You just don't get it.

Oh, and I'm dying laughing at you correcting my spelling. Your posts are littered with such a litany of spelling and grammar errors that I can't possibly read and criticism from you and keep a straight face. Thanks for a(nother) chuckle. In fact, that's my new name for you. Chuckles.
