I don't think there is!

In the search box above put in your state. Then when it shows the search results click on people. I have tons of people that come up from my state that way.

Yes! search under people with the state as the search key! I came up with 5 pages for Maryland!

I just looked and I don't see a way to do it but hope someone is able to prove me wrong.

Before the Hawthorn upgrade there was an eaiser way to do it because I use to all the time but we seem to have lost the ability after the upgrade.

I think there is a way to do anything that you want to do. I just don't know how.

I look at new people who comment, friends of friends, and friends of their friends to see where they are from. I have 10 in the same state, 3 of them fairly close. There is also a group for my state.

I think you can but only if someone tags their stuff with a state. That also can't guarantee they LIVE there and haven't just VISITED there.

Plug it in the search box on top of this page. Then click PEOPLE. That should do it.

I see someone already told you how to do it.

All you have to do is hit the blue link that says what your own state is in your profile, and the advanced search will come up and you can see how many others say they live in your state. You can do it with any of the blue links in any parts of your profile to see how many others have the same words listed as you do for other things too.

Another thing that's kind of interesting about hitting the blue links in your profile to see how many people come up is that you can pretty much assume that if you have something in your profile that is not something that most people would write, you might be able to safely assume that anyone who has the same thing in theirs must have read yours. For instance, I have written for my location, "Anywhere You're Not." If I hit that link, in the parenthesis next to the bolded People, it will show that two people have that same phrase. In this case it's Sue B., and what looks like some alter. The icons are displayed below just like in members for groups. Unlike members in groups, however, the order in which the content was written is reversed. With groups, the fist persons to join the groups will be listed on the last pages to the newest on the first pages. With this search, the first person who ever entered NH for New Hampshire in his profile, for instance, will be listed first to the last on the last page.

When this first came out, I believe with Hawthorne, I played around with it a lot and put in all kinds of ridiculous things in my profile for moments at a time, just to get the links to test and see how many people would result in various searches. One of the searches was Mensa in the clubs and organizations. Got some inordinate number of people who said they were members. Then I posted an article calling attention to it and after that, at least half of the ones who stated they were in Mensa took it out.

create a group for your state or look for a group that is about your state, maybe post your state in your profile I try and connect with everyone I can find on here in ohio and run a group for people from ohio. and it works well.

Interesting. Thanks for pointing this out.

You should be careful when entering search terms that have more than one word.

For example, entering New Hampshire will return a lot of results that may not be applicable to your search. This is due to the fact that Gather's search tool adds an OR between each search term. Thus a search term of New Hampshire is actually processed as "New OR Hampshire"...displaying content/groups/members with EITHER of these terms.

To narrow down your choices do either:

1. Enter "new hampshire" in quotation marks.
   
   
2. Enter new AND hampshire, adding the AND (all uppercase) between the terms.

Also, use the advanced search options to ensure you are looking at the member's current location, and not their childhood hometown or other data.
