Which Song Version Is Better (Number 40)
Information on today's song from Wikipedia
"American Pie" is a folk rock song by singer-songwriter Don McLean.
Recorded and released on the American Pie album in 1971, the single was a number-one U.S. hit for four weeks in 1972. A re-release in 1991 did not chart in the U.S., but reached number 12 in the UK. The song is an abstract story surrounding "The Day the Music Died"--the 1959 airplane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and Giles Perry (The Big Bopper) Richardson, Jr. The importance of "American Pie" to America's musical and cultural heritage was recognized by the Songs of the Century education project which listed the song as the number five song of the twentieth century. It is also the longest-running number one Billboard Hot 100 at eight-and-a-half minutes; some Top 40 stations initially played only side two of the single, but the song's popularity eventually forced stations to play the entire piece
Today's song...
American Pie - Don McLean
American Pie - Madonna
This one is an easy pick for me. There is no competition. Don McLean gets my pick for best version hands down. I grew up listing to his song and I don't care for Madonna's version at all.

If you've ever seen any of the interviews that Mclean did where he was asked to explain his feelings about having written that song, you'd be able to fully empathize with the emotions that prompted him to write and share it so many years later.
He was actually just a kid delivering newspapers when he saw the headlines that day and that's what impacted him, so much so that "American Pie" was born.

But, I'm going to say that I like Madonna's version better.
Wanting something is not enough. You must hunger for it. Your motivation must be absolutely compelling in order to overcome the obstacles that will invariably come your way.
In the end, it is the person you become, not the things you have achieved, that is the most important.
Madonna needs to go back to whatever rock she hides under and stay there.
Since I’m in the middle of Finals week, I hate to admit, but I must give in to the temptation of leaving a generic comment
But to give it a little personal touch, I added some artwork for you to enjoy!
