Today, I walked to Kolb Farm, about a 15 minute walk from my house. I see it nearly every day, and I love it, but I have never actually walked there and stopped to take pictures. But I've decided every day when the weather allows, I'm going to try to walk for half an hour, so Kolb Farm was a perfect location.
Kolb Farm was the site of a huge battle in the Civil War, and only one building remains of the farm buildings that stood on this land at one time.

This is the original farm house, a log cabin. I want a house just like this one, except I want it to be two stories instead of one.
It was in bad shape and was restored to its original appearance some years ago.

The Kolb family plot is in the side yard of the house, right next to Powder Springs Road now. Some of the stones are unreadable in part, but the dates range from 1863 to 1900.

The battle raged over all the land where we live and between here and Kennesaw Mountain, a few miles away. The troops were trying to keep Sherman from taking Atlanta, unsuccessfully. Most of the historical places are gone now, except for the Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield Park, but some small pieces of the past remain, and it fascinates me to find them, right in the middle of suburbia like this.
