I'm a TERRIBLE roll model for MY children

Good grief, what IS the problem with tatoos??????? Oh man, if that's all I ever had to worry about, I would be just thrilled!!!!! Tatoos don't bother me a bit, I could care less about tatoos.........honest to God, what next???????

LOL I have a tattoo too..and I plan on one more possibly two more...

I hadn't heard of tattoo Barbie, but my daughter is past the Barbie age. with everything going on in the world you would think they might have more important things on their mind..

I'm such a bad influence for kids, obviously, since I've got lots of them. I should be shot.

Being an artist . . . I LOVE TATTOOS!!!! I don't have any of my own (fear of needles of any sort --- I had a panic attack getting pierced in my belly button and ears), but I love them for the artist expression they create. I've seen a good share of some awful ones in my day, but many are beautiful and carry personal meaning for the possessor. You mean to tell me that they are coming out with a Barbie that has tattoos?! That's awesome!!! I haven't had a doll in ages but I might have to invest in this one! I love that Babie's perfect image is getting more and more realistic by the day! Last I heard, there was a dispute over her figure!

My kids love my tattoo! If they want one of their own one day (when they are older!) I will advise them that they are permanent and that they better think long and hard about what they want and where they want it.

Hey I don't understand it either and I don't have tatooes. Come on people the barbie tatooes are temporary. And both my girls wear temporary tatooes. What is the problem there?

Of course neither one of my girls have wanted to put one on their belly and wear a halter top to show it off yet.

Tattoos? Is that what that's about? Omg. Not that she's based on an oldtime sexkitten type doll originally created for men, not that she was created by a pervert that had a seriously disturbing fixation with her, not that she promotes an unrealistic stereotype of beauty that is white, blonde, and insipid, not the endless consumerism. All that's ok, but they draw the line at tattoos? Good grief.

Damn, and here I thought I was being a good mother. I guess I will have to ban my son from myself and several other family members. Poor kid, I do hope he turns out alright.

I can think of many other reasons that Barbie is a bad influence... like unrealistic body image thrust into little girls minds at a very impressionable age... but I personally do not think tattoos are a big issue.

Bridget, no. You have it all wrong. The pregnant Barbie was the bad role model. Because you KNOW that there are going to be MILLIONS of teen pregnancies now just because of it.

Oh and ... there are SO MANY children that look up to the size 0 doll. I can hear the battles with anorexia and boob jobs starting in households with 13 year olds everywhere ...

I was reading my SHAPE magazine last night. There was a poll online asking parents if ad's that target kids (ie: using cartoon characters, advertising on kids channels, etc) for junk food should be allowed.

One of the responses said that while the ad does target children, it isn't the child who handles the money, and does the shopping, and that parents need to take responsibility for what they are providing for their children. She was against banning the ad's, by the way.

I agree with her- if I want to give my child a barbie that has a tattoo, then that's my business. I can't go back later and say, "Well, my 15 year old snuck out, and got a tattoo- I'm suing Mattel!"

It doesn't work that way. There are so many frivolous lawsuits over stuff we purposely put in our lives, that it's amazing that the courts have any time to deal with real criminals!

My favorite are smokers who sue because they get lung cancer. Cigarettes first featured a warning label in 1966, stating: Cigarette Smoking May be Hazardous to Your Health. It first mentioned Lung Cancer in 1985, and yet, these people kept right on smoking. Then, 20 years later, they get lung cancer, and decide to sue? That's complete and utter crap. Smoke all you want, but get real, and realize the consequences.

No tattoos here, but then again I have the feeling my boys won't be playing with barbies either:)

Hmmm I have a couple things to say about Heather T's comment about smokers...
I do not agree with people who are currently smoking or started smoking after warnings were issued being able to sue.
I think that it is realistic to think people who were smoking "way back when", and quit or tried to quit after warnigns came out, should be entitled to at leat having their medical bills and things like that covered.

Also, I believe that people that were smoking when it was still legal for a 10 or 12 year old to walk around with a cigarette should be entitled to reimbursement for health issues. there is no 12 year old that could understand the warnings put out before... so what it contains carbon monoxide, so what it can cause miscarriages.... now they are point blank understandable. Can cause health problems, can cause cancer, they are simple and to the point.
I used to have a folder covered with the 15 or so warnings that were on packs when I was in school. None of them were really straight foreward and told you "bad bad bad for you".
Most of them started with the words "may" or "might".
Like in the example "Cigarette Smoking May be Hazardous to Your Health" to any teen, the chance that something MIGHT be bad is one they are usually willing to take.

people crack me up ! really? an uproar over a barbie with tattoos? you don't want your kid to play with it that's fine.. but if someone does wanna buy it for their kids let them.. no problem in that ! my dad has tattoos & that didn't have any kind of effect on me as a kid.. i LOVED them.. i want one now.. but i want mine to be something important to me.. i don't want one just to get one.

i played with barbies when i was younger ALL the time ! & people who complain that her body is so unrealistic.. please.. when i played with them i never even took notice to her body.. i was more worried about her hair & clothes ! kids don't worry about these things ! they just wanna play & have fun ! everything nowadays gets so blown out of proportion ! kids can't even play tag without people thinking it lowers self confidence ! so glad i was a kid in the 80s & early 90s ! haha

I must be a bad mom to because I have a tattoo. Good thing I married my husband who doesn't have one to save my children from being completely ruined....by my tattoo.

LOL- my parents didn't get tattoos until AFTER I got mine! My dad was really upset, & then a year later asked me who my tattoo artist was! So I guess I am a bad influence on my own parents :D

I don't actually care one way or another...I don't care for Barbie in general, and I'm glad my daughter never got into them....

As for tatoos....I don't have one, and I don't want one, but if someone else does, unless it is vulgar and right out in the open, I don't care.

My little boy loves my tat, I have a fox on my shoulder.
