My Health and Wellness Blog - Friday's Entry
Happiness lies, first of all, in health.

I am resolving to eat well, be well, and feel great!

I have usually always followed this old pyramid in an attempt to be healthy & well; but now that the food & drug administration are making different pyramids for different folks, for different reasons, & cultures; I decided to try out the Mediterranean Diet Pyramid for awhile.
The major change in this updated pyramid is that all plant foods (fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, legumes, seeds, olives, and olive oil) are grouped together to emphasize the health benefits they provide. The scientists made this change to bring attention to these delicious and healthy foods. A new addition to the Mediterranean Diet Pyramid is herbs and spices-for reasons of both health and taste. Herbs and spices contribute to the national identities of various Mediterranean cuisines. The scientists also pointed out the healthfulness of fish and shellfish, and suggest that it is beneficial to eat fish and shellfish at least two times per week.
And in keeping with this regime when we ate out tonight at the Philadelphia Art Museum's Art After 5 program; I made sure to choose some interesting dishes that seemed to fit this pyramid.
- I had Eggplant Bruschetti mixed with cavir as an appetizer
- Shitake Mushroom Cap Salad over Mediterranean greens
- My entree was grilled beef with a really neat fruit chutney to dip the Beef skewers into.
- For dessert I choose a Fruit Tart that had a varity of fruits ( Blackberries, Kiwi's, apples, madaran oranges, & pineaple.
- I did splurge on a Cherry Blossom Sake (Nihonshu ( After all it was a Japanese event )
