Brianne got bit at school...

UGH, some kids are biters! I honestly don't think a kid can bit another kid on "accident."

As a mom, I hate when my kids get hurt but you can't protect them every second, things are going to happen!

If it continues to be a problem though, I would take additional steps!

thats really crappy:( Is it the same kid who keeps hurting Brianne? Whether it is or not these parents need to know what they did. If my kid hurt somone at school I'd want to know.

this time it was buy a kid in her class. the funny part of all this I asked the teacher if they were sending a note home to the other student mom and dad, and instead it going to them, i believe i got it. grr.. this school is starting to make me mad, i would actually yank her out if it was not helping her, but at this point i am sick of the injuries...

Biting needs to be handled in a very sensitive way... sensitive yet firm. You should ask the teachers how they dealt with the child who did the biting. After biting the child should firmly be told "NO BITING" and then have the adult walk away. This worked for me with two biters I had when I worked in daycare. The one only bit two times and the other bite just three or four times (but he also had many other problems). There is also a sound that you can hear before they bite. I can't describe it but it is a red light noise if you are in-tune to your classroom. If they are fast enough and they listen to the noise they can catch them pre-biting which I have done many many many more times then the kids actually bit skin.

The reason children bit is out of frustration because they don't know how to express themselves. If it is not dealt with correctly though it turns into a behavior.

Also a good question to ask the teachers is how they dealt with the wound... did they clean and patch it, document it in your child's folder as well as a behavior in the biter's folder? In my classroom both parents would be called at work right away so there was no miscommunication and so I was the one to pass on the news (and not from me to the person finishing the day then to the parent)

Oh this is horrible!! I would be really upset. I don't know ho biting can be an accident. I think at that age it is out of frustration of not being to express themselves yet.

Sorry that happened. Notes should have been sent home. Even if the otherkidsdid not bite your daughter on purpose, they still needs to be taught that it is not okay to bite.

Maybe you should talk to somebody above the teacher about it.

I subbed for a daycare or two that was having this problem. One allowed several bites, then promoted the child to an older group. That worked to stop the biting.The other daycare just kicked out the kid. Either way we had to write notes to both parents and keep records in our room and the office.
I think it's a common enough problem. However, my son seemed to pick up on other's behavior, so be aware that Brianne may bite next.

i just came across this post while wandering around gather........i had a cousin on my fathers side who was five years older then i was......until i came along she had been the "star"....the only child in the family.......i was the child of the oldest son... a big deal in virginia at the time..... my cousin just could not handle people making over me.... when no one was looking she was constantly biting me......there was dead silence in the room when my mother bit her back........ she never bit me again..........lol
