Tomorrow, I am leaving for a trip to Australia where I will attend a family reunion. There is so much emotion involved in this trip as, even though I have been back twice to visit, this will be the first family event I have attended since leaving Australia when I was 12. My life is firmly established in this country but there is a piece of me that has remained strongly attached to all that Australia represents in my world.

 

And so this song keeps running through my head.

I was due to visit family this Christmas, 2009, but my sister has suggested that I delay the trip until end Feb/early March next year, as she fears that the summer in Australia (Christmas time 2009) may be more than I can take nowadays.

It took me 38 years before I went back for my first trip home to the Philippines so, I know how momentous this is going to be for you and your family members back in Australia. Take those pictures, eat and drink to your heart's content, hug your trees, love your kin, and don't forget to climb a mountain or two to find some answers.

Duckie - I know that you understand what it means to live with your heart in two places and how the heart expands almost beyond capacity at the thought of being with far away family. I intend to participate fully in everything while I am there.

And thank you everyone - it is exciting that technology will allow me to share this with you, almost as it is happening :)
