It's happened to us a couple of times: We're on vacation, the whole family is pumped to spend time at the beach and in the pool, and then it starts to rain. And it doesn't stop. Maybe it lasts for a day, maybe for a couple of days. One time it lasted the entire week-it was awful.
Weather can be unpredictable and can really put a damper on things. But it doesn't have to ruin a vacation. Catching a movie at a movie theater or going bowling are rainy day activities that are always popular with my family. But there are other, more vacation-related options too, such as visiting a museum and learning a little about the culture of your vacation spot, or going shopping for treasures and keepsakes with a little local flavor.
In Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama, a range of choices are available in the event of bad weather, from movie theaters and indoor miniature golf to various museums and shopping venues. Many activities can be found by visiting www.thebeachiscalling.org.

I look out on a sunny Friday evening and see people from all over enjoying the New England cool bright sun. When a rainy day comes (or week) - I wonder: Where are all those people today?
We have a very active Visitor Information center here in my hometown. Every town that relies on summer trade or beach enthusiasts has a Visitor Center offering passes and coupons, and maps and phone numbers. All can be had easily.
Bowling and Museums and such are always a good bet. Locally we offer tours through famous old processing plants, or a private visit to a boat maker, or a tour through the sub-basements of local old New England churches - or into hidden corners of antique cemeteries. So much abounds for rainy non-beach days. Next time that umbrella looks like a good idea on your beach vacation - head instead to the Visitor Center.
Thanks for your interesting post.
