Wow we are up to number 40 already. A classic for today's song. If you missed yesterday's song you can find it here
Which Song Version Is Better (Number 39)
A little information on today's song taken from Wikipedia
"Mr. Tambourine Man" is a song written and performed by Bob Dylan and featured on his 1965 album Bringing It All Back Home, produced by Tom Wilson. After Dylan wrote it, he produced a demo in December of 1964, which The Byrds' version is based on. It was a number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 by The Byrds, recorded on January 20, 1965, before the release of Dylan's own version. The single arrived in the shops on April 12, 1965, and was later included on their debut album, Mr. Tambourine Man, released around the time the single topped the charts. The album brought the folk rock sound into mainstream American consciousness.
The song as sung by The Byrds is #79 on Rolling Stone's list of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.[1] As sung by Bob Dylan it is listed as #106 on the same list.
Today's song...
Mr. Tambourine Man - Bob Dylan
Mr. Tambourine Man - The Byrds
This one is a hard choice for me and after giving it a lot of thought. I decided I can't pick. I love both versions. So I am going to do something I don't usually do and call this one a tie.
Which version do you like best or do you not like either one?
Although I did not include this in the choice I thought you might enjoy this version for a laugh. I love William Shatner as Captain Kirk but not singing this song. I suppose it could have been a lot worse though.

You know Dylan was the reason the Byrds broke up (well maybe one of them), One of the members (not Crosby) was wanting to only to do Dylan cover songs, and not work as much on the original content. Crazy huh?
Have you ever, whilst vacuuming tried to hum to the same tone as the vacuum? If you have and was in tune with it you could probably do a great impersonation of Bob Dylan!
I don't have anything against him. I heard an interview with him on the radio the other day and he said he knew his voice sounded weird in some of his songs and stated it was because he was trying different sounds.
For a while there, he could've been in a bagpipeless band. lol
Great post! The Byrds sound better to me. :-)
Phyllis - A little? How about a lot. Come hang out with me and that won't be a problem anymore. I love all kids of music fro many generations.
I'm going to have to say that I pick neither one.
The Byrds may have made it a classic of unobtrusive radio friendly folk/rock but Dylan made a masterpiece of poetry/folk art. No question his is of a drastically higher order.
Wanting something is not enough. You must hunger for it. Your motivation must be absolutely compelling in order to overcome the obstacles that will invariably come your way.
In the end, it is the person you become, not the things you have achieved, that is the most important.
I think they are about equal.
