This comment seems to be the new "in" slogan now-a-days.  This seems to be all you ever see if someone leaves a generic comment.  Unless it's "Points Nation" and that one is creeping up fast!  LOL  I know what these words say and mean.  But what are they really projecting?

A few months ago...the most popular "in" slogan was...

Again...that seemed to be all you ever saw left for comments.  I often wonder who comes up with these slogans?  Does someone research them, so they can start a new trend?  Or are they just simple "catchy" phrases that people see in comments and one overly zealous soul decides to add it to their own personal library of lingos?  Who then takes that phrase and turns it into their own personal campaign slogan and starts a new group.  And like most fads that are out there...everyone wants a piece of the action.  Then before you know it...the phrase spreads like wildfire!

Just about all of us come up with some catchy phrase at one time or another.  But not all of them have spread like wildfire, like you have seen the likes of these two.  Even though "thanks for sharing" has not been turned into a new group...it has definitely become a popular slogan.

I have just often wondered about it?  Because now-a-days, it seems that every time I go to view the comments left on my posts or anyone's post for that matter...over 50% of them...all they ever say is..."Thanks for sharing..."

I wonder what the new phrase will be a few months from now?  And more important...who will be the one to light the match?

Pay it Forward is from the group "Pay it Forward." Pretty self explanatory. I truly believe that the "Thanks for Sharing" is a nice way to leave a comment when you want to leave one but really don't know what to say. Some pictures and posts are interesting, but you really have nothing to say about it. Rather than leaving without making any comment "Thank you for sharing" is used.

If it's interesting, I say Interesting. If I am in a hurry, I write pif or hh. Usually, though, I try to say what I mean, or how I feel. Sometimes I piss somebody off so they remove my comments, or go on my page and flag my stuff, but not too often.

Nurse Nancy said what I was going to say. I do try to leave a nice comment but if I at a loss for words I just say Thanks for sharing. Some of the new groups designed to help with points are using comment codes. I like the idea of helping someone reach their goals and leaving the codes makes it so much easier.

I do say thanks for sharing too and I dont mean no harm by it. But at times when you arent really sure what to say I say that because I do appreciate them sharing there stuff with me.

I'm with the others. Sometimes I leave Thanks for sharing. There's times where someone posts a recipe or coupon and I do appreciate them sharing. There's other times that I totally disagree with every sentence of a post but rather than start a knock down, drag out I'll leave "Thanks for sharing". It just depends. It doesn't bother me to see those on my stuff, it's better than no comments! Anyway, Thanks for sharing!! Tee hee! :)

i tend to say that when i am in a hurry and am trying to get to as many posts as possible. or when i don't have anything else to say. lately, i have been doing a ton of viewing, and not as much commenting. the "generic" comments at least let people know that i have been there.

Hey, it's better than being mean. Sometimes it's about the best we can say. If I open someones post and find that I haven't got a clue as to what they are talking about I just say "Thanks for sharing", it's polite and it also says "hello".

Points Nation is a place for leaving a comment to help with member points and there are a lot of members. It's a nice group to belong to. I see your name there too.

Hang in there, worse things could happen . . . sooooooooo, "Thanks for sharing". I'm like everyone else, I couldn't resist saying it. LOL

I agree with Nurse Nancy about Thanks for Sharing. I don't always know exactly what to say so I say "Thanks for sharing". However, I'll only leave it if it's something not serious. I've seen serious articles where people have left the "thanks for sharing" in a situation where it's not appropiate. If I don't have anything to say in those cases, I just don't comment.

When it's a recipe or a song, I say "Thanks or Thanks for sharing" because I appreciate the recipe or song. It's different on the internet because you can't hear a persons tone or gratitude, just simple written words. Great article btw

I've read a few of the comments here, but before reading the others (if I find time) I want to share my view.

Personally, I use Thanks for Sharing! as a generic comment when whatever I view has little to no effect on me. If it is a photo that has the same "subject" as 10 others, you are almost guaranteed a thanks for sharing. If it is a post that has little to no interest to me but is by one of my friends, I say thanks for sharing. But there are times that the photo is a one of a kind or a very interesting topic and I still use "Thanks for sharing." This is usually when my grandkids are driving me nuts, I'm running late, or I'm really tired.

I try to come up with something more at times to use as a generic comment. I even try to not leave generic comments when time permits. My entire world has been turned upside down by the addition of four household members. That has really done a number on my schedule and my energy level. It also limits my time on the computer because they want it all the time. That means, I can view and comment on 10 pages and leave a very well thoughtout reply or I can make use of generic comments and do 20 pages. If the comments do not count, but the page views, which would you rather me do? 10 of yours with a thoughtful (usually long) reply or 20 with a generic comment on many of them?

I know that not everything that I write or post will be interesting to all of my friends. When they let me know that they are viewing them, it warms my heart. I have some friends that have honestly probably never viewed much of my stuff. Others that are not friends view it often. I try to choose one of those that comment on my stuff to view the most during my time on gather. When I have extra time, I pick someone to view by going to my posts and clicking on a profile. If they don't leave a thanks for sharing and simply view it, then how will I know that they have been there to repay the favor?

Nongeneric comments are great. People don't always have the time or energy to post them to each and every post, video, or photo. Letting others know you have been there will help you in the long run, so if generic is all that you have time for, I do understand.

Well let's see I do leave thanks for sharing for two reasons. Some post go completely over my head! LOL I know a lot but some people know way more. So If don't know what I am reading I say thanks for sharing. Want to be honest..*snicker*

And other times when I am trying to get through the 500 messages I have and don't have time to do a personal response to all of them. Since we get points for posts (for both people) I thought I was better leaving a generic comment than not one at all.

K, thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

I don't typically leave generic comments, and often leave detailed comments, but now I'm running this group and I have the option of rejecting off-topic submissions or thanking LOTS of people for submitting. I don't really feel like rejecting people. I created the topic for my own interest but it isn't some great ideal I'm upholding, it's just for fun, so why would I want to reject someone? That is the way I'm looking at it, but it doesn't leave much time for comments of substance. I still leave such comments on articles dealing with the environment, or on great photos, etc. But, for many, a simple "thanks" is all I can manage.
