Aaron Delaney's Responses - Game 2
- How many magnets do you have on your refrigerator and what are they
I think the ones on Fred's frig are just the round, black, ugly kind. I don't know how many, and I don't care. We used to have a frig in our old home that had all these cartoon character magnets. You know, like Mickey Mouse? And my mom would stick my art work to the frig with them, but we had to move after Dad left. I think Mom just left them there.
- List three things you need from the grocery
I don't know if I really need these, but #!, soda; #2, a box of Captain Crunch cereal (the peanut butter kind); and, #3, those shortbread cookies. I think they're called Lorna Dune or something like that? No, wait. Forget the cookies. Make the third thing one of those fancy, smelly soaps. For my Mom, not me.
- What is your favorite television show
I used to watch a lot of cartoons when I was little, but those are for kids. I'd rather go somewhere quiet and read. It's too much of a hassle to get Fred to switch the channel to something I might be interested in. Can I go now? Are you done?
- What was the last concert you attended
Outside school, I've never been to one. But, I remember my Dad playing a record from a concert called Woodstock a lot. You know that record? That would have been cool to go to that concert.
- What do you like most about yourself
Like about myself? I dunno. I never thought about it much.
- If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be
I'd be someone else. Totally, someone else.
- What scares you
That life will always be like, ya know, this.
- What comforts you
It sounds kinda wussy, but singing. Singing always makes me feel better.

Mine too.
The kid's likeable...though troubled like so many others. If only we had the time to spend one on one with the kids like this...too bad there are so many.

Doyle I <~~~~~
This is what keeps me up at night, Doyle. Through teaching and now tutoring on Saturdays, I have met so many kids like Aaron - even worse off, actually. Thin, undernourished, bruises...but the physical signs are not as horrible as the scars forming on their minds and hearts. You know they're there through little signs, spoken and not. One of the most heartbreaking things is their obvious loyalty to and need of love from the very caretakers who are not doing so much in the line of caring.
I think it's a credit to your character that he's penetrated my cold, black heart without being too sappy.
QUICK!! Somebody check for the other 3 Horsemen! ;-)

I believe he's a softie, just like you, Janna. We see you, too. :-)
I want to hug him and tell him that things can get better with a little work on his part. (and maybe a new friend or two?)
Thanks, Kathleen. He sure could use a friend. Perhaps one of the other WE characters?
I feel like he is out of reach. He's so cold and jaded that it makes me think that even the friend or mother-figure that people above me have offered to Aaron wouldn't be able to reach him...
But, then again, he has a bit of a softer side - the singing. It seems like he just has a total lack of self-confidence and has never been given reason to believe in himself.
ah, Lainie, but he's so young. And he does have a softer side. I've known so many kids like Aaron in teaching. There is always a way in, and oftentimes kids like this are yearning for an offer of friendship. We shall see. :-)
There's a lot to care about in this young man.
Mark
