Dear Donna,
I know its been a while since I've written, but you know how it goes, huh? I don't really mean to neglect you, old friend, but sometimes life just gets in the way.
I guess I'm as settled here as I'm ever going to be, but I still have some redecorating to do. God, this house is horrid! For some reason, I remember it bigger. Is it possible that it shrunk over the years? Believe it or not, the wallpaper in the kitchen is the same tacky rosebuds that were here when I was a kid, and it was old then. I guess I need to find me a handyman, cause you know I've never been much good at such things. Maybe I can find me one with a tight little ass to watch as he works..lol. Not likely in these parts.
Mommy is much the same. Some days she knows me, some days she doesn't. I don't know if it was a blessing or a curse to get hired at Sunny View (which it doesn't have, BTW). Luckily, I don't work on her unit, but I do have to see her every day. Does that make me a bad daughter? Hell, I was a bad daughter to begin with, wasn't I?
I don't think she ever forgave me for not coming back for Daddy's funeral. Sometimes I think I see something akin to contempt in her eyes, but I could be wrong. Like I said, she doesn't know me nine out of ten times, and I think I'm grateful for that.
Other than work, I'm staying busy. I'm acting as the field nurse for the high and middle school's sports teams. Right now its basketall season, and other than a few sprains, its pretty uneventful. Our team is currently eightth in the league..Woohoo! and a Go Tigers! I get bored with going to all those games, but I've met some pretty interesting characters, as far as small towns go.
There is one woman who is CONSTANTLY trying to cajole everyone she meets with taking her kids for the weekend. Lord only know what she does when she manages to find a sitter, but she doesn't seem too picky on who takes them .She even asked me at the last middle school game if I would take them for the weekend. Now, do I even vaguely resemble a babysitter? Ha Ha! One of these days I may take her up on it, just for shits & giggles, ya know?
Would you believe there are a pair(?) of Siamese twins that live on my block? I kid you not. Joined at the hip, quite literally. I haven't actually met them, but I've seen them around. One is kind of mousy, and the other is loud and dresses like a slut. Like I'm one to talk..lol
The mousy one has the most beautiful eyes though, kind of deep and insightful. I'm probably wrong, but I think I'd like her.
My kids are doing fine, Kelly came to visit last month, and Mommy called her "Dixie". I think the poor child was mortified...lol. She is spending the winter in Fla. I'm glad she doesn't have to work for a living, which is to say, I'm glad she married money.
David is, well, David. He is still trying to "find himself", and roaming the country with that band of his. Mostly playing bars, but occasionally they get a gig opening for some
studio created country star. HE's happy, and I guess thats what counts.
As for my own love life, its pretty much nonexistant. The livestock to pick from in this burg is pretty damn slim. The last time I made it into the city for a little fun was two months ago, before basketball season started taking all my weekends. Just between you and me, if I don't get laid soon, I'm going to have to buy stock in Duracell, if you get my drift..lol
I guess I've bored you enough for one sitting, so I'll close now. I hope you write me back in a shorter time than it took me to get back to you. Again, I apologize. You know I love ya, and couldn't live without you in my life, even if it is a bit sporadic of late.
Take care sugar,
Dix

If you read my character development piece, you will find a heartbreak led her to never return. That is, until her Mom got sick.
I tried to incorporate some of what Dixie has observed, but just a little. Glad you still like her.
Great job donna, really great!
I like Dixie and she's facing some tough times, for sure right now. It's not easy going home, if it's still home after all those years, is it? I like what you did with this and how you brought others into it, not all of the characters, as that would've been too many to digest, but enough so that we can see that she's been keeping her eyes open.
Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~
I also like Dixie, or should I be writing this to Dixie? Whichever. This, for me is a good example of how this should be done - bringing a few, not too many people that are also here in, and still - you just gotta like her.
Sincere thanks. I am trying to slowly let Dixie get to know the town she detests. Hopefully she can learn to at least tolerate it. I tend to like her also. There is a bit of me in her, but I'll bet you knew that.
It is both interesting and intriguing to see how the character is fleshed out (grows) with each writing; especially amid the varying formats of writing being used.
This is Too Cool !!
There's some good background in there as well - helpful for later on in the challenges I expect.
As for description, lines like "...Now, do I even vaguely resemble a babysitter? Ha Ha!.." and "...the other is loud and dresses like a slut. Like I'm one to talk..lol..."
are a great way of showing rather than telling.
Loved it.
Thank you sincerely. I'm hoping Dixie's exploits will live on and on.
I am learning so much from you all, I see how you are developing her character, and reading her letter, really gives great insight into the woman...of course, I dont know why we all dont have stock in Duracell!!!! LOL, awesome line!~!!!!!
