Some disturbing developments at CBS of late have left me wondering if they are not intent on running head to head with Faux for the affections of the wingnut right of the conservative population.
In this article about Obama's nomination of Kathleen Sibelius to head Health and Human Services, Media Matters examines a CBS News report where they seem to show some real tangible bias, something I have been noticing more and more over the months, and by appointing Jeff Ballabon as their new senior vice president for communications at CBS News, they have taken on one more of the neocon faithful.
Not to mention Ballabon is a real hard line radical Israeli supporter, and opponent of the two state solution in the Middle East. This guy is Israeli unstable, and an obstacle to the peace process, if not much more.
Soo,... Liberal media my a**! Slowly, bit by bit, the 5 or 6 giant corporations that control our media, thanks to massive changes made at the FCC by GW Bush appointees, are chipping away at our news access, and slipping into bias, but it's a conservative bias, and it's getting more blatant every day.
The Obama Administration needs to address the ownership of our "free" press and media, limiting how many outlets one entity can own in a single market again, and restoring other regulations on the ownership of our press, and our media, to allow for diverse views, or our news will be ever more what they want us to hear, what they want us to see, and not the news, but a slanted conservative view of it.

News access? Give me a break. You couldn’t tell news from commentary even if it was color coded and given different funny accents. If you want “news,” try a real news program … like NPR. Real news organizations don’t get tingles in their legs. They don’t shout news at you. They don’t whip you up into a panic. They report news, that is to say the events of the present, within the full historical context.
You just don’t get it. The free press is never “free.” If you want a free press, you got to pay for it. That is why this conservative supports NPR! (And even though most executives cringe when they hear it, I guess that means I support “Car Talk” as well.)
Considering the total failure of your ilk to manage to figure out the mess Bush was putting us in the past eight years, I'd hardly be insulting my ability to decipher the news. Really. NPR has also shown a bit of bias of late, such as their failure to bring one single progressive into a conversation on the Obama budget a few days ago, while making sure two conservatives were present. The weekend after the stimulus was roundly rejected in the house, the number of conservatives that appeared on the talking head shows was what, four to one? What I cited is happening, but it doesn't surprise me a bit you can't see it. You don't want to. Your type has widely decried a liberal press bias, while the whole conglomerate of them gave Bush a free ride for years. As for how you get a free press, I can tell you how not to do it, and that is to make sure that all media outlets are controlled by corporations that have conservative interests in reporting the news. And by the way, CBS can hardly be called liberal, since right after they railroaded Dan Rather and set about changing their whole tone.
Since Clinton signed the telecommunications act, Clear Channel Communications owned 1,200 radio stations at its peak.
THAT is the problem. No local ownership. No local accountability.
Too bad Gen Powell didn't take his son with him when he bailed OUT of the Bush administration.
As long as someone seeks out news from more than one source, however, I don't know that this is a problem. There are enough opportunities for information so the diligent seeker can find truth (and, each outlet offers both perspective and truth -- Fox has items worth noting on occasion as well).
