Not normally a fan on onion rings, these were excellent! I loaded them up right onto my sandwich!
1 large onion, thinly sliced and rings separated
1 cup flour
2 t steak seasoning plus extra for sprinkling
1 cup beer
1 egg
oil for cooking
Sprinkle onions with steak seasoning. Set aside. Mix flour and seasoning together in a flat container large enough to dredge several onion slices at a time. All at once, whisk in the beer til mixture is smooth. In a similar style container, beat egg with a little seasoning. Dip onion eggs, then in the batter, shaking off excess. Set on a plate and repeat process. Refrigerate 10-15 minutes.
Meanwhile, heat about 1/2" oil over medium high heat til shimmering hot (or 375°). Fry onions til golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper bags or towels. Season once again.

And you don't taste the beer.
I would make onion rings more often if I was more confident, LOL.
Hot vegetable or canold oil, John. And always do a test one to make sure the oil is hot.
An easy way to test your oil to see if its hot enough is to drop in a small cube of fresh bread. It should bubble up and float quickly to the top. When you take the cube out and cut it with a fork it should be crispy. Works like a charm everytime.
Will you be trying "horse piss" beer the next time you make these onion rings?
