I suggest that Republicans need to be profoundly embarrassed by this speech, and by the fact that Limbaugh, a deeply complacent, smug, and ungifted man who has never held elective office, was offered the keynote spot. Look guys, if you are trying to say that you are proud to be Republicans, why not let one of your elected leaders speak for you. Why hide your elected leaders, and push the un-elected guy, who is accountable to nobody besides his commercial sponsors, into the spotlight?
It's lovely the way Limbaugh "praises" Obama. It's not praise when you say that a man is profoundly gifted, a person with the greatest leadership potential of his generation, and then sneer that his gifts have been perverted into serving the project of "destroying" our nation:
"How did the United States of America become the world's lone super power, the world's economic engine, the most prosperous opportunity for an advanced lifestyle that humanity has ever known? How did this happen? And why pray tell does the President of the United States want to destroy it? It saddens me."
Well, Rush, you and I are saddened by different things. Enjoy your "advanced lifestyle" dude, that's what the Constitution is all about, right? I am sure that those are expensive cigars You Suck on. As for me, I will withhold judgement on America's slide into communism at present. When the jobs stop disappearing, the banks stop failing, the fat guys in suits stop begging for bonuses to stay in their offices long enough to help liquidate their companies, we can talk again about the dangers of socialism. You may be able to coax me into smug complacency when the economic free fall slows down. For the time being, no sign of that.
Just sayin', Republicans, not sure you want the Pillsbury Dough Boy to serve as your poster boy. Limbaugh doesn't speak for all Republicans or conservatives. Copies of the American Conservative magazine with the headline "How radio wrecks the right" were distributed to CPAC attendees. Read it and think it over.

Chris, next election you socialist liberals will not be facing a liberal republican like mccain, or charlie criss or schwarzenegger. CPAC is a conservative group not a republican ass-kissing liberal group. Rush was not speaking to cowardly republicans he was speaking to Reagan Conservatives, who by the way won landslide elections by 48 state margins the last time a true conservative ran against two pathetic spread the wealth welfare champions like Carter the worst president of all time and an equally liberal socialist boob named Fritz Mon-Dull. --2010- Bring it on!!
Despite all the evils of the last administration, no one made speeches accusing Shrub and Darth Cheny of deliberately trying to destroy the nation (although I've harbored a suspicion that they intended to declare the last election void and try to stay, but lost their nerve at the last minute).
I understand that we 'libruls' will never have popular radio shows, because we're not good enough at innuendo, half-truth, mis-matching unrelated statements, ridicule and just flat lying. I just wish that their constant pounding of that stuff didn't go over as 'truth' and 'fact' with so many people I know.

Not present at CPAC, but taking the opportunity to be a contrarian, is Utah Governor Jon Hunstman, who made it known in no uncertain terms that the CPAC-ers were, well, see the definition above.
Bottom line - the Republican party is still searching its collective soul. Some members are not happy what they have found, while others seem unwilling to admit what they don't see. They have about a year to get their act together and keep from losing more seats in 2010. Luckily for them the remaining seats are almost all secure so they will no doubt claim a huge victory by not losing too badly. That said, if they smarten up they could play an active role in governing this country. Their problem - well, besides the ones I've mentioned above - is that they need the Democrats to be stupid. That's entirely possible as the majority party always seems to let their status go to their heads, but this time there is someone in the White House who is both intellectually superior and more politically adept than previous opponents.

Exactly, what does that mean? My impression is that it's a sound-byte, like "socialist", which is rhetorical in nature, but means little other than protecting taxpayer interest for very large investments in the banks. It is different, to be sure, from the "public risk, private gain" of reagan "voodoo economics", but what is your impression of it?

It was handled very clumsily at first by Paulson. He really really did not want to touch it, but he had no choice. We still have no choice. But even beyond the survival of banking, that's not the only problem. Fix the banks, we still had the foreclosure mess, and the collapse of the auto industry.
It's not like Obama has the option of saying that's it, no more money. Limbaugh would love to see him do that, because our economy would grind to a halt.

Speaking on ABC's This Week, House Republican Whip Eric Cantor said he disagreed with Limbaugh's comments.
"And I don't — I don't think anyone wants anything to fail right now. We have such challenges. What we need to do is we need to put forth solutions to the problems that real families are facing today."
Isn't that what we HAD for 6 of the past 8 years?

Stop trying to be forecasters of ultimate doom until you can at least acknowledge what happened in the past.
Such generalizations contribute little to political dialogue. Limbaugh and Morris are talking heads. They hold no elective office, and take pot shots at the world of politics from a safe distance, never having to get their hands dirty with a real budget, a real political negotiation. Good luck with the project of restoring Republican fortunes under their leadership. Their appeal to independent voters will be nonexistent, unless obama overplays his hand and declares martial law.
By the way, no he's not going to do that. He actually likes the Constitution, and he meant it when he took the oath to uphold it, unlike Bush.

Charles - If republicans want to remain in minority status, they will follow the likes of limpbaugh. From my perspective, I don't give a rat's ass about republicans or democrats as political parties. I have my view of what issues are important, and what issues are crucial. As of now, democrats are right on more of the issues as I see them. And as long as republicans, such as yourself, deny the science of climate change, for example, I have no reason to support them.
Sure. If Obama succeeds, it will be the second time (at least) that a democratic administration has saved capitalism from itself. BTW, how many of those bank and auto executives do you figure to be "liberal"?

I actually thought the bits I heard weren't bad and raised some good questions. I don't live Rush's life nor am I jealous of it. But I sure as hell am not happy with the way the present administration is going overboard to change mine without my desire to do so. I see little of the so called change Obama promised but lots that is quite familiar.

The largest increases in history were LBJ, Bush II, and FDR in absolute dollars. Clinton shrank one branch of government and mainly offset that with increases in the other ones.
