It's expensive, but photoshop is the gold standard. it's wroth every dime IMHO.

Gmail's Picasa is pretty good, otherwise depending on what you are wanting to do I would say photoshop of some sort doesn't have to be the newest.. or creative suite...

There's a ton of different software. I would suggest you go to PC World, type in photo editing software and see what type of articles they have. They might even have such software free to download.

I like Adobe Products and JASC but there are lots of free programs out there, try looking on cnet.com for free downloads.

A free suggestion for photo editing software to do your daughter's senior pictures:

Download the 30-day free trial of Photoshop CS4 or Photoshop Elements (go to http://download.cnet.com and search for Photoshop), use for editing but then don't buy the software at the end of the trial period!
