I saw this piece on CBS Sunday Morning (a show I highly recommend) a few weeks ago about the book markets in Paris. Apparently if you like rare or vintage books, Paris is the mother lode, as there are about 500 shops and markets within the city.

I consider myself a fledgling book collector; nothing compared to a couple of people in this video. Whenever I travel I always have to bring back at least one book, preferably related to the area I'm visiting. It doesn't have to be vintage or rare, but those, of course, are a special find.
One of my favorite finds while traveling was a book I picked up in The Florida Keys about 6 years ago titled Storm Of The Century: The Labor Day Hurricane of 1935, written by Willie Drye. Not what most would consider vacation worthy reading material, I found it to be a fascinating tale of something I knew nothing about.
So, while drinking my hot coffee on a bitterly cold, snowy morning at home, I watched this show and fantasized about how fabulous it would be to spend some time in Paris, perusing these open book markets and eventually coming home with a treasure or two.
Or maybe three.

Lovely write. Gives me an idea. On the Destination theme: Paris.
No video on this page, though. :(

Every time I look down on this timeless town
whether blue or gray be her skies.
Whether loud be her cheers or soft be her tears,
more and more do I realize:
I love Paris in the springtime.
I love Paris in the fall.
I love Paris in the winter when it drizzles,
I love Paris in the summer when it sizzles.
I love Paris every moment,
every moment of the year.
I love Paris, why, oh why do I love Paris?
Because my love is near.
I wish that I had been older when I went to France as an exchange student (I was 15 or 16). I saw and photographed the bouqinistes, but don't think most were even open the day that I saw them. I had no idea that Paris was the place to go for avid book collectors. Incredible.
I would love to go someday...
My books are all neatly contained (per hubby's request) in a big oak bookcase in my home office. I keep a small stack (2-3) on my beside table, and another small stack (3-4) on a shelf under my coffee table in the family room.
