Just before the Oscars, my wife and I went to see The Wrestler because Mickey Rourke was nominated for Best Actor for his role. I heard a lot of good things about it and thought it would be a pretty good movie. It was actually an OK movie, but certainly not Best Picture material. It also isn't doing so great at the box office, which is a telltale sign that despite all the critical acclaim, people just aren't going to see it.
Don't get me wrong - Mickey Rourke is great in it. The problem is that he plays a loser who is good at one thing, and that is performing before a crowd. In everything else, he is a failure. There's so much heavy drama and undeveloped subplots that it just didn't work for me. On top of that, it had a bad ending.
