Penny for ’em, tuppence ha’pence,

’Ere you let your thoughts run free

Never stopped to count the cost

Never thunk a thought be lost

You gave away a pen’orth and it’s nowt comes back to thee.

My problem is that if someone offers me a penny for my thoughts I'm likely to give them a dollar's worth!

Thought you would launch into full Gaelic any moment. Loved the Burnsian, old style, balad like quality of your piece, Shiela. I am sure I could be way off on the vinage or more likely, the region singing through your stunning verse. But I am not confused at all about how much I enjoy it, and how it caught me up in it. Feels like the etymological poem for the phrase, "a penny for your thoughts." Fantastic.
