If you were listening to the president last evening you may remember him mentioning a town called Greensburg. I feel I know Greensburg, Kansas and its residents well. I've never been there but I have been obsessed with following their story I was flipping through television channels and discovered my cable company had added a new channel to my line up called Planet Green. The first view that I saw of Greensbug on this station was one of miles of nothing dotted by tree stumps. This was what was left of Greensburg after it had been demolished by an EF5 tornado in the spring of 2007 and the desbris had been cleared away. Imagine a community having disappeared and in its place only stumps.
FEMA trailers were added to the stark landscape and residents returned and decided that not only would they rebuild their town, they would rebuild it green and for many weeks I followed their story in episodes produced by Leonardo Di Caprio and The Discovery Channel. I feel I've come to know these people and my hat is off to their determination and tenacity. I was especially impressed by the involvement of Greensburg's High School students. Their parents have reason to be very proud.
Episodes are still airing on Planet Green but if you do not have this channel you can find webisodes at http://planetgreen.discovery.com/tv/greensburg/ and see some photos of their progress at their website http://www.greensburgks.org/

Nature will take care of itself if we impose less.
