Snowdrops

To Snowdrops

Frail, but resilient

Wan petals, yet brilliant

Emerging from drifts

As Winter's coat lifts

See trembling snowdrops.

Fragile, enduring

Modest, alluring

Immaculate brightness,

White upon whiteness,

Pearlescent snowdrops.

Defiant, demure,

Inviolate, pure

Each diffident face

Gleaming, vivid with grace,

Enticing snowdrops.

Annealed against frost,

Each petal embossed

With a singular seal

As in silver or steel

My constant snowdrops.

Not to the frost

Is your purity lost

But Spring takes your arm

With its vigour and charm

Escorting snowdrops.

Shameless and flagrant

Seductively fragrant

Bolder blossom parades

As your freshness fades

Soon-forgotten snowdrops.

Lovely poem . . . I really love appreciating God's single gifts in nature. My personal favorites are sunrises and sets. Today it was a tulip and my grandson's appreaciation of his first look at a flower.

Perhaps I should clarify: snowdrops are little, white pendulous flowers that come out in late January or early February here in Europe. They are soon joined by the more colorful crocus, to be followed by the daffodils and tulips.

I saw some recently at my mom's house (in Canada, it was getting a bit late for them; I think these were the last pocket). Beautiful. I wanted to pick some, but knew they would only last an hour.
