I do like Smash Mouth's version but for me The Monkees is much better. They get my pick for favorite version.

The Monkees is a more familliar version to people like me, who grew up listening to the oldies stations.

The Monkees were always so lame...as they are in this match up, but I can't believe how mellow Smash Mouth is with the remake. I'd have to place them both in a tie...for last place. I never cared much for this song to begin with, so it wouldn't really matter which version.

I don't know who Smashmouth is, but I thought their version was a decent modern take on the song, but Monkees is still my favorite...it holds so much nostalgia for me. Even though I graduated in '88, I grew up watching the old reruns, and while in high school, me and some friends went to see their reunion concert. It was great.

Ohhh I used to love to watch the Monkees! I like both versions about the same musically, leaning a little more toward Smashmouth, but the Monkees version brings back memories of watching their show, as goofy as it was, so that sways me to the original (so to speak) Monkees!

How could you even compare Smash Mouth to the Monkees?! This song belongs 100% to The Monkees, I can't see anyone ever making a better version.

I like the Smash Mouth version, but it's certainly not my favorite song. What about the version with the characters from Shrek? Isn't that really the best one?
