I am a happy person, but...

I am a happy person, but one thing troubles me: Asphalt.

It's not just the paved roads, either. It's the untended, unloved patches of grass that are commonplace near asphalt, too. You see this around shopping centers. You see this around housing developments and urban sprawl. Together asphalt and grass reduce our collective sense of beauty, our respect for the biosphere, and erode the man/nature balance. Awful, right?

To achieve healthy balance I plan to start a landscaping project that addresses this specific issue. I can't get rid of asphalt, but I can plant flowers and trees that beautify my neighborhood and help achieve natural balance. (It sure beats the cost, oil, and gas required to mow and maintain strips of grass!) For example, selected regional plants would conserve water and encourage wildlife like birds, bees, and bats. Beauty, biosphere, and balance — wouldn't that be better for us all?

There are enough people concerned with the health and future of our planet that I believe it will be easy to find volunteers to start the process. In fact, I would ask members of our city's local green initiative first. These dedicated volunteers work hard, and, would stay fueled and focused with Boca Burgers. If selected I would use the prize money to beautify a specific, yet neglected, commercial street.
