Feng Shui (pronounced fung schway) literally means "Wind and Water" and is about creating balance and harmony in your space and your life by enhancing the flow of "Chi". Chi (pronounced chee) basically means energy in English.  Good chi is strong and balanced where Poor chi is weak and unbalanced.  What we try to accomplish with Feng Shui is finding a good balance between the two.   I have studied and am certified in the Black Sect Tantric Buddhist Feng Shui which originated in China and is practiced worldwide today. The practice of Feng Shui has been interpreted in different ways    In addition to Black Sect there is Western or Compass Feng Shui, which I am currently studying.  There is no right or wrong here, just different ways of thinking which are all based on living the best life that you can.

Just so we are clear here, Feng Shui is not a religion or new age mysticism but more of a common sense approach to decorating, design and living.  It is my belief that one can change and / or improve their life, career, relationships and finances with the use and implementation of basic Feng Shui principles. 

My focus over the next few weeks will be to post articles about the fundamentals of Feng Shui and to explain the terminology that I will be using in future articles.  Some of the information that I plan to cover will include, The Bagua, The Five Elements, Your Front Door, Clearing your Clutter, Selling your Home with Feng Shui, Relationships/Partner/ Romance and Space clearing for startes. 

Also, I have started a Feng Shui Basics group here at Gather and I would love to have you join us.

I am not into Feng Shui, but know that many people do believe that it does help improve their lives. I just can not see how people can call a 'rock' feng shui, and charge 600.00 for it.

No one that I know in Feng Shui would charge $600 for an appointment let alone a rock. Not sure where that's coming from but in my opinion, not good information!

Teresa - I have studied Feng Shui on my own for many years. It is probably one of the best things I've ever had the pleasure to learn and apply in many situations. I don't understand the above comment because Feng Shui can be applied by each person for FREE and anyway, I thank you for this articl and look forward to reading more. Thank you. Salud

I knowabout Feng Shui and if we were to begin, it would mean tearing down our house along with all the clutter and starting from scratch. Thanks for the info though, it is a good posting.

David W. lol - I can relate - for one this house is not facing in the right direction and I can feel it - I'm so in tune with nature and being outside that it's hard for me to be in most houses - I actually start hyperventiliating especially in newer houses that have carpeting and artificial wood...I have to have a real wood floor to step on - anyway, clutter - hahahah - yea, well, ok I'll shut up. In Feng Shui there are "cures" for things that don't quite fit. So you don't have to tear them down just yet, LOL

interesting. I have read up on it before but I`ve never done anything with it. I did remember they said to hang a mirror above the burners on your stove and to not have clutter,etc. I will look for your articles.

I move into places ordinarily based on facing north. I have had such great luck with those places. We need more definitive books on feng shui. I researched and found a few in Barnes and Noble at the time about decorating. Got my homemade red pillow and chimes too. I truly don't know if it's a mindset positive image that it makes me feel and or if it really works. But it works.

I don't know anything about Feng Shui other than having heard the name but I am all for anyone finding what makes their lives work well. As for myself I can't imagine or want my life to be any different than it is. I was blessed with a wonderful husband for over 30 years who seems to make it his life goal to see to it that I am as happy and content as possible in all things. I can honestly say there is not one aspect of my life that I would want to change.
