In a recent interview, US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton urged (read begged) China to continue investing in American Treasury bonds.
"We are truly going to rise or fall together. We are in the same boat and, thankfully, we are rowing in the same direction," said Clinton in a surprising outburst of solidarity with the Chinese "friends and partners."
"I certainly do think that the Chinese government and central bank are making a smart decision by continuing to invest in Treasury bonds... It's a safe investment. The United States has a well-deserved financial reputation."
Interestingly, there is still someone in the world who thinks that the "United States has a well-deserved financial reputation."
Hillary probably does not believe in such nonsense, especially now that the US financial system is on the brink of a collapse. But she is a politician and has to lie for the cause (not the first time though).
Perhaps since America needs Chinese help now more than ever, that's why Clinton did not discuss human rights issues with her Chinese counterparts during her visit to China.
America is going through a financial crisis, so there is no time to talk about human rights issues around the world. Never mind the oppression in Tibet, the lack of freedom of speech, expression, and political rights in China.
There are now more pressing problems and Hillary cannot really care about human rights at this point. Maybe the new American administration will get back to these issues some other time, when the times are better. Currently, they desperatelly need Chinese money and will do anything to keep them happy.

Savo, it is a sad thing when we publicly give a wink and a nod to China's habit of trampling on human rights. But beggars cannot be choosers. We are like the Wicked witch of the West in Muchkin land: "beggone, you have no power here". Maybe in another decade we in the USA will be able to crawl our way out of the hole we have dug ourselves, and then maybe we will be able to stand for something.
* Contrary to popular belief, it is a fact.
30 years ago, many Chinese died of starvation, did not have a roof over their heads…
Not any more now.
Are these the basic human rights?
* Why you’re lied to.
The media wants to create controversy to sell their stuffs.
The politician wants to establish a common enemy, so you ignore more important problems that they cannot fix.
The offense companies have more reason to expand.
They all assume you are stupid and cannot analyze.
* Why US is human right violator.
How many we killed and how many Chinese killed abroad last year?
How many innocent people we have to kill in Iraq before we stop?
How many national guards are sent to the killing field against their will??
Should we destroy another country accusing them to have ‘mass destruction weapons’?
Why it is OK for us to own nuclear weapons that can destroy the entire world with a push of a button?
How many citizens die of obesity as we encourage “good” food?
How many poor remain to be poor for generations due to our generous welfare system?
How many our children are killed every year due to our lack of gun control law?
Gun control is not even an issue for both political parties.
How many teenage mothers we encourage starting from the top politicians?
How many Indians stay in their reservation forever and got drunk by not providing them with jobs?
How we use up the world’s oil and blame China who uses less than ¼ of ours per capita?
In addition, a good portion of China’s oil is used to manufacture our stuffs that we do not really need.
How we blame China for military expenditure while ours is 10 times theirs?
How we encourage our citizens to spend on credit and buy houses we cannot afford until the entire financial system collapses?
When special interest groups donate millions to politicians, how can they make unbiased decisions for us?
The list is endless.
China has its own problems and we have our own. Let each work on her problems and we’ll have a better world.
Your yardstick is good for your country but not mine, and China’s yardstick is comparing China 30 years ago. It is laughable to use the yardstick of a developed country (US) to measure a developing country (China), and vice versa. Depending on which yardstick you’re using, China could be a human right lover and US a violator – that could sound funny!
The sad thing is that not only was one of the democrats strongest arguments with Bush about fiscally undisciplined spending and our dependency on China, but they vowed to reign spending in and reduce that dependence. It's priceless for them to say that "Bush made them do it". Didn't their mothers smack them hard enough when they came home with excuses like that? Either way, the real question is what did the Obama administration have to concede to get China on board? Her husband unwittingly gave them the Aegis Combat System back in the 90s. How much of America's security was sold off this time?
Why, if you are considered disabled are you allowed to still work and make a paycheck? This makes no sense to me either... You cant work for alot of salary but you can make so much... if you were to better yourself and you were being trained for a job to get you off of the government check, then I could see this but this isnt the case.... There is lots of abuse with this program too... If you haven't worked for a check to get enough credits to draw ss then try drawing ssi , they consider the income in the household... just tell them that your husband or wife( whichever the case may be) has left, get a po box and still continue to live with your spouse... This is another abuse.... I have worked in this system and there is to many ways to get over on the taxpayer and this is at ALL of the taxpayers expense....
Back to the point of this story is get the USA straightened out and back on track we wouldn't have to beg foreign countries for help... Are we now a country of welfare, that now we need a handout....? This is pitiful , shameful and disgusting...
We could also, downsize all of government, CEO's and this includes government, government contract jobs, scale jobs, and most importantly Congress etc....Make sure that these hot shots in government pay THEIR TAXES...
We are a country of waste,,,,, make all of the jobs that can do so, work 4 ten hour days.. this saves on gas, and power...such as elect. water... etc.... It also, gives the parent more time with kids and extra day.... there are ways of getting around this recession but no one wants to take the time to balance and budget... it would be time consuming but in the end well worth it..
This is just a drop in the bucket on the system and how it is run and how easy it is to get over . Sometimes, I dont think the overseerers of these programs really want to get involved, they just seem to close their eyes to this abuse... You can look at how good some of these kids are dressed and see that there parents must be doing fine...
Oh, I almost forgot this Schips program too.. Another joke... if your parents can afford to make 70,000 a year and drive around in a nice new car and live in an expensive house,,, your parents can afford to pay for health care... Start looking at the seniors who cant work anymore and have worked and paid into the system who cant afford to live.. We need to encourage a system to take care of them and discourage people from having kids that they cant afford...
We are Paris Hilton, China is our daddy.
Vickey, yes it is about living within one's means morally speaking, but it is too late to make the entire problem go away with mere preaching. Our economy is near collapse, it is a big problem not a little one. The problem will not go away on its own without government interference.
Couldn't they email or call Hillary and tell her what's happening in China prior to her trip?!
