Crazy names parents give to kids...

I know some of you have heard of some crazy names given to kids.  Now none of these names or people are meant to be made fun of...but sometimes I wonder where the parents minds are when they name their kids?

  • I actually went to highschool with a guy named Robin Hood.
  • I also went to college with a girl named Snow White and she was African American.  LOL
  • I had a pastor who named their first daughter Majesty.
  • There were folks down the road who named their twins Ima and Ura.  Last name? Hog... I don't know which is worst?  Being called Ima Hog or Ura Hog? LOL
  • Years ago I worked with a co-worker by the name of Mary Poppins.
  • And to top it all off!  I worked in a bank whose president was called Mr. Rumpbottom! LOL Now you can't help what your last name is...but I sure would have wanted to change it!  LOL
  • Oh!  And I forgot that I had a friend by the name of Chiquita.

Have any of you ever played, lived, worked or went to school with people who had some strange names or they were named after a cartoon character?

A friend told of a couple with last name "Day" named their daughter Mary Christmas. Her birthday? December 25th. :)

I have always known people with sensible names. That's good in a way, because I would be tempted to laugh if I heard a funny name, and they would probably get mad at me.

I used to do business with an Oral surgeon whose name was Dr. Butt. Needless to say his new wife didn't take his last name. LOL

Parents should be punished for hurting their children by giving them all kinds of weird names, especially the names that are not even people's names. :-)

I worked with a girl years ago named Feather, and more recently a woman named Cocaina. Her father bet in a poker game the right to name her and lost.

It's usually the last name that get me... i worked with a girl whose last name was Hoar. I'm certian as a kid she couldn't wait to get married. While I knew her she became engaged. His last name.... Worm.

yes the stars get away with the strange names as there kids wont socialize with the everyday kids and most likely wont be made fun of, but our kids would be,

I can't say I knew anyone with an unusual name, but did know parents who spelled their child's name differently such as Bryanna, not Brianna, Srina, not Serena, or even Krystina, not Christina.

People need to remember their kids will have to put up with a lot of teasing, and as an adult the person with a really weird name may not be respected as they should.

But consider this:

I had a boyfriend who's mother's name was Ima...when she remarried her last name became Hooker. The man across the alley is names Easy Fortune (and they are very wealthy) and there used to be a listing in our phone book as Loyal Butts.

My parents were very unimaginative with our names, there were 11 boys and me, all our names begin with D. The even numbered boys middle names are Leon the odd numbered boys middle names are Leigh, my middle name does not begin with L but I won't tell you what it is.

I do have triplet cousins named Labour, Paine and Sorrow though.

Names can be very funny, I always liked the ones who spell their names how they sound.

When the people used to come to America to get in they wouldn't tell their last names so they would not get turned away !Thats how you get those ones with two first names , I knew someone called Joseph Joseph. Just like Ann Frank ... so on .

Hmm ... I met someone named 'Pencil' once and an unfortunate girl named Poo Wee. And I once met a woman who had named all five of her children 'Farten'. I must say that all of the people mentioned did not speak English as a first language though.

My last name is Duch. It's pronounced DUKE, but you can imagine how people pronouce it. So, if I can laugh at that, I feel like I can laugh at other peoples names. lol

It can make things rough all right, children are so cruel. My last name is Luce, I grew up and mom still lives on Spruce Street, that made it pretty fun in itself by my sister Penny was known as Nickle tight!
Now, the man I live with is really Edgar Allan Poe, Jr., his boss Charlie Brown and he had a drinking buddy named Jefferey Dahmer, now that made for some tales!

Wow. All of these are very unusual. Some made me laugh, some made me sad, and some made me mad that a parent would even thing about doing such a thing to a child.

Thats funny! I have seen some crazy things in my life, I worked with a girl named "Chiquita" like the banana, heard of a girl named "Placenta" and a relative who was a guidance counselor in a high school had to talk a young girl out of naming her child "Diptheria". A friend had a baby who was in the hospital with "Uniqeua" and my husbands aunt married a man with the last name of Hoar, some of her children changed it later in life.

LOL this is hysterical!!! There is a doctor here locally named Dr. Phuc Vo. Needless to say he is of Asian decent but how would you pronounce that name????? probably NOT what we are thinkin! Its too funny though!!! I know a guy named Scott Scott, poor kid!

There was a city attorney named a German spelling of a feminine hygiene act. I don't think I've run into anything really unusual, but several "what were they thinking" ones.
My doctor was William Williams. My nephew Mikael Dael. And there's the lady in town Penny Lane.

I have known some weird names. My mom went to school with a Crystal Shandra Leer (crystal chandelier). My dad was a repair man and one of the accounts he called on had a correspondent named Richard Head (naturally he went by the common shortened name starting with a D).

Some people with interesting last names also need to consider their professions. We have a local dentist named Dr. Payne, a local urologist named Dr. Cummings, and a local allergy doctor named Dr. Horbel (pronounced horrible).

It does make me wonder what people are thinking...

I dont know what they were thinking. I do feel bad for the little ones though because although most people are kind there is going to the few like the school yard bullies that I am sure are going to poke at them. sighs...
I am thinking maybe they do it because they want to be different or they want attention, either case I think they should consider the child a little more. But who am I to judge their decisions.
