It was like a scene from the old movie Network. You know, where the TV news guys says "I'm mad as hell and I'm not taking it anymore." Well, I think anyone who saw Santelli's rant will agree he's definitely mad. I realize that many on the Right are a little indignant over Obama's victory but wow!
I'm not surprised by the fervor of the talking heads on the Right though. They've always loved the "loudest voice gets heard" method of propagandizing. In the wake of the Democrats taking power they've gone running back to the same old tired rhetoric that worked for them in the past. Tax breaks for the wealthy and for corporations will have a trickle down effect and create jobs. And now after the GOP spending spree we saw from 2001 to 2007 it's hilarious that suddenly they've become the voice of restraint concerning the spending portions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
I'm sorry, but all the ranting coming from the Right these days seems pretty hollow if you know what I mean. It's kind of sad because it looks like the Right believes these "distractics" will still work.
It seems many on the right are convinced they can win this fight by shouting the Democrats down. But I don't think many are listening anymore. The GOP has just racked up too many failures lately to be taken seriously anymore.

Get over yourself. Some of these issues are more important than political gamesmanship. I personally supported Obama, volunteered at one of his events, and voted for the man. But I absolutely stand firm behind Santelli's rant this morning. I opposed the TARP bail-out (in the original form proposed by Paulson); I opposed the hand-outs to Wall Street (as long as it doesn't wipe out bond/equity holders); and I firmly oppose this new bailout to those facing foreclosure.
But as soon as you start talking handout for the poor and middle class, they are totally against it, which is, of course, what got our country where it is in the first place.
You should hear him when he gets going about the yield on the two year t-bill.
I have to say after hearing a financial advice show yesterday when some woman who earns $250K was asking when she can get her mortgage reduced, I agree with Rick.
On the other hand, Santelli's rant was nonsensical and over the top.
Anyway, Santelli was right, that is why he has gotten so much attention.
Really? Do you happen to know how much gets spent on "government assistance for housing and food" (code term for African Americans) versus how obscenely much money gets handed out to corporations? Probably not since FAUX Noise doesn't like to give out FACTS.
Santelli got so much attention because he was talking out of his a**!
Sheesh Spartan, maybe if you quit reading so many comic books, you might see the reality without anyone's interpretations? After all you cannot go anywhere without seeing the real world, if you leave the comic books alone.
General "Fidel"Obama telling honest hard working Americans that they are now obligated to pay their neighbors mortgage is beyond Marxism it's insanity.
Hey, get off my back General, my responsibility is first to my families needs, not to your needs to pick winners and losers. General you are a millionaire how about you and Michelle start paying off mortgages with your millions- spread your wealth- baby.
General, what gives you the right to force the American people to be charitable with our paycheck. General you can not by law force a once free people to be charitable, I am charitable to whom I choose to be charitable too- that General is known as free-will.
And is none of your Marxist Business.
Devin, the American people who still cherish their freedom are starting to speak-out against Big Brother-Obama and his army of losers.
Give up the partisan rhetoric for a second and think. Stop being a mindless sheeple. Stop letting your passions overwhelm your reason. If you let the weak antelope breed it weakens the rest of the herd. When you reward stupid it weakens society as a whole. The weak antelopes need to be left to fend for themselves so the rest of the herd can recover and prosper.
I'm tired of those who were so insistent upon Wall Street being totally deregulated now saying that regulations are evil. It's regulations that kept this type of things from happening - duh! I'm really mad that the Big Three are getting away with ignoring the changing tastes of the American car buyer, then crying crocodile tears and saying they need us to bail them out of the mess they created! But it's the pinheads who call their fellow-Americans "losers" or "freeloaders" that really irk me. Try losing your job in an economy that rewards companies for "outsourcing". Try looking for months for another job that will pay your mortgage. Then see how you feel about those alleged "freeloaders" who are just trying to survive until they get back up onto their feet.
They were the idiots that forced the banks to take the subprime notes... and we are giving them MORE money?
this is the dumbest thing i have ever heard.

The idea the majority of America agrees with you is the highest level of delusion I've ever seen you demonstrate. But I do understand that accepting what has happened must be simply impossible for you and your friends. And any hope the GOP is going to make a comeback is just as delusional. America is no longer a white's only country. The margin of victory Obama enjoyed is just the beginning my Republican friend. 2012, and 2016 will see even larger margins of victory for the Dems. Face it or not Rich, the GOP is finished.
Devin, the american public is angry. They voted for change and hope from a man they thought was different than the run of teh mill politician.
And then , in a matter weeks, they are starting to see that they are getting raped worse than they ever have.
They are getting tired of tax rebates for people that dont paytaxes
tired of bailing out failed companies
tired of bailing out people and failed mortgages
tired of hearing how racist they are
tired of the coddling of illegal aliens and money spent on them
tired of reading about states like CA going bankrupt because of it
You think that you have the masses behind you in your views - you dont. You are in the minority - big time. Not as a democrat - dont twist my words - but as a hardcore left winger.
Americans are tired of getting screwed and this past month it is happening at a pace faster than ever.
If Obama f***s this up - it is looking more and more like that is the case every day - it will not be a good time for the dems in '10. Its not that far off.
Here's some light reading for you that has some pretty pictures that even a moron can read (and hopefully have enough sense to get very very frightened).

Anyone who has children or even the remotest sense of responsibility for the next generation should be appalled that we're borrowing this much from them. Additionally, where's the faith in the average American? We are a very intelligent, industrious and resiliant bunch who have always made lemonade from lemons. And mighty GOOD lemonade, at that. We don't need help... it may look like it, but as history has proven difficult times has exposed a character and power within us that's unrivaled in the world. Let those who must fall do so - they'll pick themselves back up and be better for it.
To go back to the issue at hand, the mortgage may need to be refinanced to avoid more foreclosure, personally I think it is a bit complex but to avoid foreclosure for people who need it and can pay for it at a lower payment it may be the only solution since the banks have stop doing their job. I would have set up a gov bank and treated this as a business with the hope of recovering some of the expenditures later on.
What Obama says will not change the mind of all those people who have been screwed and lost all their money to Maddoff or all the crooks who got big bonuses. Americans have no confidence neither in the market or the banks.
My concern here is that if we sniff at this solution to the foreclosure bomb, if we whine, like Eric Cantor has, that it is unfair because it gives no goodies to the 90% of mortgage holders who used common sense and whose lenders also behaved logically, then we do nothing to defuse the bomb. And then it goes off, and this recession will last not a year, but ten years. Will we all be happy then? I won't.
HEY-HEY-HEY, hoe-hoe-hoe, Socilaism got a go.
To Lea goes socilist mother of the year award. She does not care if her kids are burdened with a huge debt to pay off.
"Sheesh Spartan, maybe if you quit reading so many comic books, you might see the reality
LOL...I haven't read a comic book since I was in the 3rd grade, spud. But, I DO know how much "welfare" gets handed out to the poor compared to how much gets handed out in the form of "Corporate Welfare". You must have comic books on the brain since FAUX Noise IS sort of like watching Video Cartoons! LOL
What is truly irritating about this though is that Santelli knows the truth yet conveniently skipped over it. And the truth is that the money that will be used to rescue the mortgage industry will NOT become a liability. In fact this money will be eventually paid back to the government with interest. The fact that Santelli knows this yet continues to yammer on about how the "good, hard working people" are going to have to pay to bail out the "irresponsible idiots" that got in over thier heads proves whta a low life he truly is.
The "good, hard working" are not being asked to pay for this. That is a lie. In fact, the vast majority of the "good, hard working" people here in this country are about to see their taxes go DOWN!!!
The facts are that this is not a bleeding heart give away program to "bail out" stupid, irresponsible losers as Santelli would have you believe. This project consists of the Federal government borrowing money to rescue the entire mortgage industry by investing that money to stop the foreclosures and put the industry on a paying basis again. When that happens the money will be paid back to the government with interest.
Santalli was correct. I should not have to pay for some idiot who bought a house they cannot afford. Why should they get lower interest and a principal reduction when I do not. That is the issue devin. If the government wants to give everyone the same deal at least that would be fair. But no, they want to help those that cannot take personal responsibility for their personal finances.
Like it or not, the market is a barometer of consumer/investor confidence. So far not a damn thing Obama is saying/doing is going to change that. This Bush/Obama recession promises to be an ugly one that Obama is doing his best to make into the Carter years or worse...
