Calicut, Wayanand and The Western Ghats

I'll have a post up in a while, but in the meantime, I've posted about two dozen new photos from my trip into the Western Ghats today and yesterday's awesome sunset on the beach here in Calicut. Sanjiv, Nithan, Kader, Ahamed and I had a great time.

Highlights: the Magpie Robin and the Red-Whiskered Bulbul.

One monkey picking another's butt.

Drinking fresh coconut milk!

A mahogany forest.

And of course, a Calicut Kitty.

I love that kitty, so different from Western ktties and that monkey above is quite something. You look like you love the milk. Never seen mahogany before, (apart from furniture) and the birds are striking. Money butt picking, priceless. Better than World Mastercard.

Great photos, beautiful birds, cute monkeys and a poor kitty. I saw something on Animal Planet that showed an ape squatting on a tree stump. This guy was the dominant fellow, and another ape was rebelling against said ape's dominance. To show who was (or wasn't) boss, the second ape would run up repeatedly and stick his finger in the big guy's butt and then run away. The big guy would just look around and go back to minding his own business. It was pretty hilarious.
