Silicone isn't just for breasts anymore!

I ventured into Walmart the other day to get some curtains to finish off my bedroom project.  I figured I would check out the Valentine's clearance because I usually always buy Valentines cards for the next year.  I was digging around the shelves and found a 12 pack of silicone heart shaped muffin/cupcake cups.  I have honestly never cooked with the silicone cookware; however, I have always been curious about them, so I threw them in the cart.  The price was right and I decided they would be my guinea pigs.  They are neat because they are like the size of muffin paperliners that you put in the muffin pans. With these, you simply place them on a cookie sheet, fill them with batter, and bake them.  You can use them in the microwave, toaster oven, and regular oven.  They tolerate a lot of heat to: up to 500 degrees.  It really amazes me! I am going to try them out this weekend! I will post my review of them at that time.

Anyone have any experience with the silicone cookware?

I have done just what you did...bought some on clearance, but have hesitated to try them out yet. LOL Please do post what you think, I'm really curious.

Don't try to take the cupcakes out while the pan is hot, it will be a giant mess. Just let the silicone pan cool completely, then just pop them out.

Yes, I got some muffin pans last year for Christmas. I really like them. Also have silicone spatulas that I use all the time.

I love my silicone stuff! We have the mini muffin mold, and we use it just about any time we make muffins. We also have a bread pan that we use for banana bread. They are really easy to clean! We like the spatulas, too.

Yes, I have a ton of it. I buy it at flea markets and at Wal-Mart. I have a muffin pan, a cake pan, a bundt pan, a loaf pan and single muffin cups. Love them all. Just make sure to use the muffin cups in your regular muffin tin OR on a small baking sheet (with rims) or you will have trouble getting them out of the oven.

Also, if you buy the muffin cups with the ridges, make sure to use a small toothbrush to get all the stuff out of them. They are really great in the dishwasher too.

I have these and absolutely love them. The muffins come out perfectly heart shaped but you need to let them cool completely before you try to pop them out of the cups.

I have never used any. But have wondered about them. I think the next time I see some on clearance, I will buy some and see how easy it is.

I've never tried the baking pans, but I have some tongs (a'la Rachel Raye) that are silicone and metal---they're great, and I use them to pick up stuff from the deep fryer so they're tough. :o)
