Tax Assessment

I just received a notice of assessment from my county.  It seems that my house has decreased (duh) by $75,000.  It has a whole breakdown of my taxes and where they go, but nowhere does it say what they will now be, now that my home is worth alot less.

What I find disturbing is on the breakdown of school taxes.  No where in there does it state how much money from Lotto goes into my school district.  Yes.  Lotto.  Lotto was approved here in New YOrk State only when it was promised that some of the windfall would be going to our schools.  Well, I am quite sure that Lotto is pulling in quite a large sum of money.  How much is going to my district?  Anything?

How can you even find this out?

They probably did EXACTLY what Florida did after promising that the Lottery would pay for schools........................whatever percentage the Lottery infuses.......the state just reduces their portion....................net gain? Diddly squat............. just another drain on the poor that waste what little money they have buying the darned tickets! Don't ever remember Donald trump lined up to buy any lottery tickets! Go figure!

In CA, the lottery goes to the school district of the winner. Don't know about NY.

Not sure. Did you taxes go down to accomodate the decrease in value in your home?

That would most likely be a NO. They did not include what I would be currently paying, but I am assuming that they are going to raise the rate so that my taxes stay the same.

Thank God that I had a big down payment and it didn't decrease beyond what equity I had. I only bought 5 years ago this month.

That's a good question. Perhaps you can check your state lottery's website to find that information.

Sorry about the loss of value to your home. I would go to the tax assessors office for the answers to your lottery money questions. If anyone knows about that stuff, they should.
