Adam Carolla Fired From CBS Radio

Adam Carolla, host of one of LA's most popular radio talk shows, is out of a job.

CBS Radio is pulling the plug on "The Adam Carolla Show" - Friday is the shows last day.

Adam Carolla took over the morning shift on KSLX in January 2006, after Howard Stern went to Sirius satellite radio. Although Carolla's numbers have been decent, the station has never quite recovered from Stern's absence. Now KSLX says it's changing format from talk to pop.

Prior to morning talk, Adam Carolla was best known as a co-host to the popular night time syndicated radio talk show, "Loveline".

Maybe this portends an end to the era of middle-aged "frat boy" radio jocks espousing their "I'm more of a wise-ass than you could ever be" schtick? Nah, there are too many other middle-aged frat boy wise-asses out there who are ever ready to provide an audience. (It took me awhile, by I did finally outgrow that phase... it might be a challenge to find anyone who would/could corroborate that fact, tho'.)

I've heard the show and although I didn't hate it. It's really no great loss. He is a talented man and will have no problem staying busy and raking in the bucks.

I will miss listening to him every morning because he made me laugh despite being stuck in a world full of you boring idiots.

im pretty pissed about this. all these ppl who dont like carolla-have you listened to his show? hearing that man rant definitely made me laugh...and theyre replacing comical talk radio for top 40s?! who the F do i complain to. we have enough stations filled with shallow musical dribble! its not just carolla thats going, the whole Fing station is! damn.

Carolla has the talent, and the attitude for a successful LA host. Did Danny Bonaduce get canned? If not there should be a trade. Carolla is not a loser.

I agree that Adam Carolla has talent, but why not let it evolve? The Man Show was a while ago, and if I were him I wouldn't want to be measuring my success 10 years from now by whether or not I still sound like Joe Rogan.

His talent, which is abundant, is not in question. In fact, the station (97.1 KLSX in Southern CA) has made a decision to switch from a talk format to Top 40 (all) music, commencing this Friday at 5 pm PST.

Great Job CBS suits! As if we don't already have enough of these $$%^&^ radio stations that just play music that does nothing but dumb down our youth. Adam Carolla, FH&F, Tom Leykis, and everyone else was the best on radio. This is one stupid move and I soon it will be regretable for the jenious who is pulling the plug. I thought he was horrible on the "Man Show."

But this is a symptom of a much bigger issue. And that is the ever thinning of advertising dollars due to things like satelite radio, the internet and cable TV. I worked in radio back in 2002 - 2003. I worked for Citadel Communications. They own 7 AM and FM stations in Spokane. Back then there were about 20 people working on-air. Today that number is down to less than 10. Everything has gone to automation or syndication. Very little live local radio is happening these days.

I get it... I get it. I too loved guys who were somewhat edgy or crude or occasionally downright raunchy during drive-time radio. I loved Larry Lujak at WLS in Chicago, Johnny B (Brandmeier) in Chicago... and that's when there was a TON of competition. Now commercial radio is a pathetic shadow of its former self. Everything is far more formulaic, including most of the shockjock/phonespoof/celebrity-name-dropping/sychophant-posing-as-iconoclast guys out there today.

As for Adam Carolla and Howard Stern, I think they are (somewhat) better than that. I just don't really want to hear them doing exactly.the.same.thing year after year. And I don't mean changing the sound effects, or using a new gimmick to change-up a tired old ploy.

That's my opinion. Nothing more. Nothing less. My pubes are with me on this.

All of you who say that Adam sucks or you don't know who he is, can all kiss my ass. CBS can too. Holy Christ don't we have enough pop music stations with DJ's who sound like they are high and laughing hysterically every two seconds. I'm so sick of the stupid chatter and crappy music that plagues the air waves. Adam is like the pulse of a generation, possibly two and you want to shut him down? Whatever, you are all a bunch of A-holes in my book!

Adam Carolla is probably the most talented person on morning radio these days. He's smart, funny and up on current events. Those of you who don't think he's funny have either never listened to him or are in that group of people Adam calls the "majority of LA people" Uh, that would be idiots......

I thought Adam was brilliant on Love Line with his humorous rants and reactions interjected between the callers and the responses from Dr. Drew. But I questioned his ability to do morning radio when, during his Love Line heydey, he would appear on Howard's show and just sound so bland, so blah, so I'm-really-way-too-cool to say anything smart this early in the day. And no stones to him for that, some of us just aren't 'morning people' and he was certainly a brilliant late-night show host. Well, my two centavos. I like Adam and wish him well.

I'm right there with you. I've been listening since Johnny B had the show in that slot and thought they'd never match him...Finally got a great group and there's not a single FM talk radio station in LA. At 5:00pm today that station is dead to me. Who needs (yet) another top 40 music station??

Pam... you have no clue what you are talking about. Adam did not get fired. The entire radio station changed formats from talk shows to Top 40 music. Every talk show host, including Tom Lykis (#1 FM talk show on the west coast if not the nation) and Frosty, Heidi, and Frank (#1 in their time slot), were cancelled. Adam is in fact still getting paid under his contract for a full year. Due to these hard times CBS radio wants to lessen the expense of paying top radio hosts in order to host a much less costly format (Top 40 music). Get your info right J.A. and don't feel so free to leave info out to better fit your lame story.
