Excitement wafts through the house like a happy, pink cloud now that we've decided to go to Pensacola, Florida about the middle of March. We're free agents (politically correct way for saying unemployed), so if the weather is going to be bad for a week, we can just wait until the next. We're going to take a left over the Mississippi at Memphis (a day for ribs for lunch, I'm sure), and trot over to Tupelo, Mississippi to see the birthplace of the King. We've seen Graceland, but truthfully, I wouldn't mind going through it again. After Tupelo we head south to Pensacola, which is described as having beautiful, sugar-white beaches. I'm ready! Today the high there will be 74. Last night I bought a set of goggles and a snorkel on eBay. I hope it'll be warm enough to use them. I had to promise Van I wouldn't go out in the Gulf more than three feet deep. The larger the body of water, the more terrified he is. It'll be wonderful to meet a fellow Gatherer for the first time - CC Miranda, our resident artist, lives right there in Pensacola. I'm hoping she'll come out to the campground and help us boil a big pot of crabs and shrimp!
My sister started a new chemotherapy session in Kansas City today. She's has a brain tumor for five years now. After two regular surgeries and a gamma-knife surgery, the tumor was much smaller and had stopped growing. A few months ago it began growing again and it's now a bit bigger than when originally found. The oncologist said that there is a rather high risk of brain hemmorrhage with the procedure, but she said she wants to fight and he told her he wanted the chance to fight with her. We're all remembering to say a prayer before we sleep, hoping for a small miracle.
Friday I go to the U of Missouri for an emptying study. I'll eat radioactive food and then be filmed while the food moves through my stomach and intestines. I'm hoping they don't follow it the entire way, if you understand what I mean.

This is the first year we've watched American Idol. I admit, the big screen TV has lots to do with it. The sound system makes the contestants sound like they're standing just on the other side of the coffee table, singing their hearts out for us. I voted for the first time last night. Who did you like? The guy Danny with glasses blew us away. I called in a vote for him. We think Tatiana will go forward, too, but the third? We have no idea.

We made a library raid yesterday. Using the library instead of buying all my books is one of my budget trimming efforts. As you can see, we read a gamut of subjects. I'd not read Gulliver's Travels since sixth grade, and it just appealed to me. Right now I'm reading The Ha-Ha by Dave King, another recommendation by Kris Sunflowercat.
After doing a bit of geocaching last fall, we are excited to get back into it. We also decided we'd like to use the GPS system we have as a road guide on trips. I ordered a DVD this morning that will upload all the U.S. road maps into the Garmin, with special features like points of interests and little known cool places. It's a little too cold for me right now to go geocaching, but it won't be long, and we're fortunate that we have a lake about 20 miles west of us that is just loaded with hidden treasure.

Buffy, the cat we inherited from my Mom. She still sits in front of the door to the room that was Mom's. Overall, she is a pretty contented pussycat.
Grief for my Mom sometimes sneaks up on me unexpectedly, but it's starting to get a bit easier. I have to go through her thousands of photo slides soon, and I want to have her VHS tapes converted to disc, and I'm sure that'll stir up lots of feelings. One thing that I'm grateful about is that when I think of Mom now, I usually think of her as she was 10 or 15 years ago when she was still full of piss and vinegar rather than her last couple of years. She was still full of it, but her health was becoming quite a challenge.
This is a long Dabble. Sometimes I just like to write about what's going on in my life even though it's not controversial or a story that goes anywhere.
Viva Pensacola in March!

I'm glad you sis is continuing to fight, prayers go out for her. As for your test-icky.
Sue - I think Danny will go on to a career now whether he becomes "the" Idol or not. His background story helps, too. I don't know how he sings some of those songs without crying.
I've been keeping your sister in mind with my prayers, too.
I'm glad you're watching Idol this year so I can commiserate with you! I like Danny and Anoop. I also like that blond chickie-poo with the pink streaks and the red lips. I agree with Sue about her hate for Tatiana, only I wish worse for her than falling off the stage. I seriously want to slap her.
We're going to have a GPS in the rental car when we hit Florida in early April, and I'm hoping it'll spur us into buying a hand held variety so we can get into geocaching, too. We've been wanting to get our feet wet with that, anyhow.
Tatiana is annoying, but what a difference last night. Maybe someone took the crank away from her.
Geocaching is a blast, Ina. I thought, well, we'll try it, without lots of conviction that it would be our type of thing. But it's so fun! You find a box and take a little plastic mouse out of it and you feel like you found the wreck of a pirate ship or something.
I think someone gave Tatiana a Valium. She needs a makeover, too. My snark knows no boundaries with her.
We thought geocaching would be a hoot, too. It would be a good way to get some walking exercise in, at the least. I checked to see if anyone was doing it here in Mayberry, and I was amazed at how many caches there were.
So glad you and Van will be going to FL and meeting a gather friend is awesome!!!! Think you will be swinging by South Carolina on your way down?!?!?!?!? LOL
So sorry about your sister....please know she is in my prayers! Prayers do change things!!
I know what you mean about the sound on the big TV....it is totally amazing!!! I listen to the 70's Music channel regularly, especially when I'm cleaning and I was just blown away by the sound of the music.....awesome!!
Buffy is a pretty kitty....I know she must really miss your mother!!!!
Again, I love your dabbling..................I say dabble on!!!!
I'm sure your trip to Florida will be nice. Hopefully it won't be at the same time spring break is so you can enjoy the scenery. Take your GPS as there are some great caches down there.
We're going to feel soooo old.
Ina - I'm so far behind, I didn't know about the cruise. You could use some relaxation, in my opinion. Would your MIL and FIL want a nursing home in Florida, or would they come back to Ohio?
Yes, I think either Tatiana was on Valium or something last night, or the other times she was on crank. And I know what you mean about the make-over. Just let me at those eyebrows with some wax. I think she designs and makes her own clothes.
Phyllis - Thanks for stopping by. Look for us this fall maybe in S. Carolina. We're talking about taking a trip to Atlanta, Savannah and then the low country in the fall, about the first of November. We're going to travel now as much as we can.
Ina - Ack! Ft. Lauderdale at Spring Break. That sounds just scary!
Joy - You can't be me, Joy, but you can follow us in your car!
That is so cool that you're gonna hit Pensacola and hang out with CC and Mason. I'm green with envy!
flit - Good to see you. I've been wondering how you're feeling?
Roy - As much walking and hiking as you do, I think geocaching would be right up your alley. It's sure lots more fun than I ever imagined.
I've read 7 books since the first of the year. Luckily, I found a used bookstore that will give me one free for every two I take in. I had a batch to take in to begin with so I got most of what I read for free and the others at thrift shops. I even found hardbacks for $2. So I am happy with all the reading I have to do. Let's see how long into the year my reading binge lasts!
Hi Magi, I've missed you! I've been thinking of you so much because of the fires in Aus.
Thank you for posting to this group whose only purpose is to thank you for posting to this group.
I'm glad you are enjoying the new big screen. I'm not going to get one just yet. It would have The Wizard of Oz, or The Little Mermaid screaming at us and I would need ear-plugs.
I am so excited for you to get to walk on the beaches and go snorkeling. Don't go out to far into the ocean and give Van a heart attack.
Love you girlfriend.
