Animal Rescue Site

In my opinion this site and others like it (see Free Rice) are one of the best things that the internet has done for society.  In this economy it is hard to put aside some money for charitable causes, but in this economy is when charitable causes most need money.  The animal rescue site offers a way to give a little bit to animals that desperately need help and it doesn't cost you anything except a few seconds out of your day.

This website came to my attention thanks to the frogpond on BzzAgent.  The timing of it was interesting though as I had just heard that our local SPCA shelter was closing down because of a lack of funds.  We currently live in an apartment that does not allow pets or I probably would have been there with the masses of people who responded to the need.  I was also in the process of washing a bunch of old rags to bring up to our local no-kill shelter, and was thinking of asking the staff if my daughter and I could sign up to walk the dogs or play with the cats, or just to help somehow.  My daughter desperately wants a pet and I can't give her one until we by a house, but I can teach her about volunteering and helping,  It would have the added benefit of getting her used to caring for and sharing a space with an animal before we brought one home, and I would be able to get a better idea about what kind of animal she would do best with.
