Today is Tax Day for us. We have an appointment to get the taxes done this evening after Nick is home from work. I tried doing it online, and hit too many problems with each of the programs I tried, so we gave up and opted to just pay the money to get them done.
We actually have the money set aside this year to pay for them outright, which makes it a bit cheaper. Last year, we had to have them paid for out of the refund, and H & R Block always charge more if you pay out of the refund. So, we'll save some money, at least.
As first time home buyers, we're going to get a decent sized refund back, which makes me happy. We need to get a newer vehicle soon. We've been a one car family for a few weeks, and it sucks now that I'm used to being a 2 car family.
For around 9 years, we were a 1 car family, but we lived close to where Nick worked, and swapping if one of us needed the car wasn't a big deal. Now, Nick is 30 minutes away, and the kids are self transport- which isn't bad, since we're not -too- far away, but it's still bothersome on the really cold days.
Wed, for instance, it's supposed to be a mix of rain & freezing rain. Thankfully, that's the day I'll have the van, so that's not a big deal. But, still, there have been some yucky nasty days already. If it were Spring, I'd be walking each morning anyway, but it's not.
It also limits errands to evenings only. One of our bills, the water bill, is due. It has to be paid in person, as they don't accept debit or credit, and while we have a checking account, we don't have checks, since we don't use them. So, I have to go, get cash out, and pay it in person. I hate that. I'd love to just be able to call them up, and pay it over the phone.
If Raegan gets sick at school, I have to walk to the school then walk her back. It's almost a mile each way- not a big deal, but it delays how long it takes to get there, and if she's sick, does she really want to walk almost a mile back home?
Anyway, so that's one thing we're going to be getting. We also want to put some in savings, and put some in a separate savings to get used for my summer camping trip with the kids. We'll likely splurge a bit here and there, as well. We pay the credit cards off in full (they're small), as well.
Have you gotten your taxes done? Do you pay to get them done, or are you able to file online? Do you get a refund? Got any plans for it?

Good luck with yours!
I hope everyone does good on their taxes, and either pays less than they want, or gets more than they hoped for! ;)
My company made changes in their pay structure which gives you more money during the year, however, I about sh*t when I saw how much I was going to owe in taxes. Being a Travel Nurse and being stationary for over a year, a lot of my income is now taxable...YIKES. However, I itemize and I keep meticulous records of everything. We keep every single receipt, because you can deduct your sales tax in FL since we do not have a state tax.
When it was all said and done, I am actually going to get back a little bit...still better than having to pay Uncle Sam. And yes, I have plans...a new digital camera.
We have ours done every year at H & R Block.
