Golden Years

Listening to the birds who are chirping at dawn,

The morning dew is being spread all over my lawn

The smell of morning with the clean fresh air

Breezes through my curtains as God begins to share

The sun rises over the east with colors red and yellow

It's then I realize it's time to wake up my dear fellow

I hate to wake him up but tonight is at an end

He has a full day ahead and much  he needs to mend

To keep us living in this house we all call home

He spends most his day talking on the phone.

By the end of the day I just want to lie in bed

Holding me close he spreads kisses on my head

I could lay there forever and let the world pass by

Being happily content with my favorite guy

Dinner needs a fixing and the night has just begun

There's homework to check and the dishwasher to run

The clothes don't wash and then fold themselves

As much as there is rumors of midnight cleaning elves.

When at last it's time to lay down my weary head

I wonder sometimes at the way my life has led

To where the age I am now where I don't really care

If in an accident the EMT's find I wear old underwear

All those things my mother taught me way back when

Still swirl around my head haunting me once again

Sometimes I realize her folly and I begin to grin

Knowing how she was way off in her categories of sin.

What a difference in the last years of this age

Where no long do I struggle seeing life as a maze

Tomorrow always comes when dare I do awake

For my life is in my hands and what I choose to make

Life is divine as my Savior draws me near

Filling me with peace and casting out my fears

No sense in worrying as Heaven waits for me

Jesus  will come and from this world I will be free

Hand in hand he'll whisk us all away

Delivering us from Judgment on that final Day

"Father I hold them dear for they believed in me

I shed my blood for them all that day on Calvary.

They were guilty of sin but they are now in the clear

For in their precious hearts they held me so dear

They accepted my gift of everlasting life

To dwell with all the others as my forever wife.

Have mercy on them for they confessed to me their sins

Open up the gates of Heaven and let them all in."
