Coupon Inserts going away!!! Please read if you use coupons

** Adding an updated comment. Some have mentioned internet printed coupons. However, a HUGE problem for many of us is a) many stores will not accept them due to so many fraudulent ones popping up and b) we are limited as to how many we can print. **

I just read this article that states that Valassis, who distributes Red Plum coupon inserts, are pulling their inserts from newspapers starting this month. I know I still received them last week, but not sure if this is a gradually thing or just certain states or how it is working.  Apparently you can sign up to be on their mailing list to get a set in the mail, but the ones I get in the mail are only ads and no coupons.

But, I encourage you to read this article, click on the tab that says how you can help, and contact Valassis, place a comment on their message board, and then contact the major companies that generally advertise with them.

I know many of us "couponers" pick up extra sets of inserts by purchasing extra newspapers. I don't know about you, but this would have a HUGE impact on us financially if I can't access these additional sets of coupons.  In addition, it would mean that many of us would no longer be able to donate as much to food pantries, homeless shelters, etc because many of the things I donate were things I was able to get for free or almost free thanks to coupons & sales. Financially, I won't be able to do that without the coupons.

A lot of companies are only doing online coupons which is too bad as a lot of stores either don't take them at all or limit the number you can use.

Wow, that's a bummer.....I, myself, don't use coupons but I'm sure this will affect a lot of people......wonder if all the companies are going to end the Sunday coupon sections?

I hope not. I have realy been using more coupons lately. We have stores that double coupons up to $.99 and I have saved lots by watching sale items.

Valassis has pulled their RedPlum coupon inserts from major cities in Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Utah, Virginia, Washington, D.C., North Carolina, Maryland, and Texas. The purpose of this website is to provide a platform for consumers everywhere to make a public statement to the Valassis Corporation regarding their decision to remove their coupon inserts from Sunday Newspapers.

But that doesn't look good...

Ok I found this. It tells you who will get the coupons in what paper. If you look up Cleveland it says targeted mail. I t looks like I will still get it in the paper.

This is horrible. With grocery prices so high, not having coupons will make it harder on alot of people. It's interesting too, a few years back I read an article that said only a small percentage of coupons were being redeemed. But recently, with the economy being so bad, more and more people are using them. Now they want to discontinue them. Hmm...

Oh no!! This is not good news. Noone in my area accepts internet coupons. I mean nobody. Evemn if their sites says they do. They will refuse in the store because I tried.

I have printed coupons out on the net, and had them declined at the store, so I have just stopped that, I hope you are able to get you coupons in the paper back, used to do a lot of that myself,

oh man... i feel for the newspapers! they are really going to lose a lot of customers. many people buy the paper solely for the coupons... i know i do! this is so sad. i save so much money using coupons. :(

It's also a good idea to contact your newspaper's distribution office! Let them know if you will be stopping your current delivery, purchasing fewer papers, etc because of the proposed Red Plum cutbacks! Maybe they can put some clout into the fight!

I find that when I do buy a paper (which is rare) the inserts and interesting articles just pile up and I end up tossing them long after they've expired. I find the best thing to do is to get on the mailing list of the companies whose brand name products you purchase often.

Yikes! I can't believe manufacturers aren't up in arms, wanting the inserts to continue because so many people (myself included) aren't so quick to try a new item unless there's a coupon out for it.

They've actually been threatening this for about 20 years and they are still putting coupons in the paper so I wouldn't worry about it. There aren't as many and the amounts for discounts sometimes are less and we don't get double coupons at our stores beyond $1 but I don't think they are going to do away with them completely. It helps them sell their products too much.

Figures, take away another way for people to survive. :( I have stopped using a lot of coupons and focused on buying items that wouldn't require coupons like fresh veggies, fruits, pastas and meats. Save a lot that way when I don't feel obligated to buy a product cuz I have a coupon for it, but that cuts out a lot of the junk foods too.

Actually I print my coupons from the store site when I need them now. I sign too many petitions to save the rainforest and such, so unless a company uses recycled paper, then I don't even get the newspaper anymore. It suits my choices I guess.

enough people at our local wal-mart have complained enough they do take the online coupons as long as the coupon amount does not exceed the price of the product. We still have 2 stores in the area that also do double couponing, but even doubled wal-mart still beats their prices.
