If you have HBO, there is a "must see" airing on February 21 at 8pm. Based on a true story "Taking Chance" should be required viewing for every American whose sole support of our troops has been to slap a yellow ribbon on their bumper. Please bear in mind the majority of our troops killed in action have been shipped home as "Air Freight" and kept OUT of sight of the public. Here is the trailer for this film showcased at this years Sundance Film Festival...
Next time someone trys to tell you these fine young people are fighting for our freedom, feel free to slap them. Nobody has fought for "our" freedom since World War II. The Iraq War has been an "Oval Office" war of opportunity designed to make a very few war profiteers obscenely wealthy. Our "freedom" has never been in jeopardy except by our own government.
May God Bless ALL the fine young men and women who, when their country called...answered the call. It's just a shame that they are/were/have been misused and abused so terribly by a government that places a higher value on creating wealth for a very few than it did on their lives!
As one person put it so well, "Vietnam turned millionaires into billionaires. Iraq has turned billionaires into trillionaires".

We ALL bear the burden of shame for what has been done to these young people!

One of the biggest crimes to me is how many poor, disadvantaged Americans are fighting on the ground. My daughters' brother joined the Marines because as a child in foster care, he saw it as his only option. How horrible. Some "justice for all."
Bravo. I wish more people realized that, especially the men and women volunteering to go over to Iraq. We should have stopped this effort before it happened and destroyed a country and tens of thousands of victims, including our own military.
I don't get HBO, but will look for it on NetFlix.
While our first air raids were hitting Baghdad, I was touring the WWII bunker in London where Churchill fled to safety and felt the terror of those Iraqi families in their homes and prayed that Bush and Company knew more than I did about why they were doing this.
I'm at Iraq War outrage overload. I can't watch another documentary on the subject. It's preaching to the choir. None of the good-hearted people who have commented here already need to watch this. The people who need it won't tune it in.
Obama needs to just get us out. Get on the bus, Gus. Make a new plan, Stan. Just leave. And wish the Iraqis well.
Yes we do Spartan.
Thank you for sharing this...I cried through the trailer, so I know it will be a difficult movie to watch, but we ALL should.
God bless 'em
I could not agree more!
The numbers of those disabled veterans and wounded as a result of the war has been consistently downplayed or hidden by the military in terms of what the actual cost to the Veterans Administration and the government is as a whole.
Now, the number of fatalities, wounded in combat which is counted and non-combat which are not counted. However, if you want to find the count for non-combat wounded—and that includes, for example, soldiers who are injured when they’re driving their vehicles at night, because it’s unsafe to drive during the day; soldiers who are wounded when they are being transported between one place and another, who never would have been there otherwise— the fatalities and wounded count would be double.
Those who are suffering from PTSD upon returning stateside, are also not counted, and are considered non-combat related. It was only his mind that was wounded in battle? The truth and human cost have been hidden from the public. I doubt we will ever know the true numbers. Thanks for this Spartan.
Michael Donald Hughes, Salt Lake City, 1944-1969, Vietnam.
And the millions of others before and since.
I will also send it to my cousins list. As you may know, I have a ton of cousins.
Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
These coffins should not be hidden from the public, but allow us to honor these men and women instead of hiding the fact because it was an embarrassment to the past administration.
thanks spartan!
People for and against the war respect the soldiers...only...the people against the war, in my opinion, have a higher regard for the troops...because they want them used, when needed, for National Security only. Not to give obscene wealth to some greedy asses who couldn't give two shakes of a rooster's tail what happens to the troops, the nation or anyone not in their family.
I'll watch for this.
"(see... nothing wrong with my comment except for the fact that Spartan doesn't like opposing views... gotta march in lockstep with the libs)"
Sorry Howdy...but it has nothing to do with "libs" and every thing to with the fact that I don't like you. You've been warned before to stay away from my content. I suggest you heed the warning.
And let's never forget Barbara Bush's disgusting comment: “Why should we hear about body bags and deaths? Oh, I mean, it’s not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?”
Once a fool always a fool after a certain age.
What an amazing movie and the way it was presented showed so many views, of how people saw this brave young man. I knew it was based on a true story, but wasn't prepared for the family movies at the end...that's when I REALLY cried.
She also taped the other film you recommended, I look forward to watching it next weekend. Thanks again, from my whole family.
We have this recorded on our DVR and have yet to watch it.
Thanks for reminding me. I'll suggest it to Donna for our evening.
Peace --
