But has anybody seen the movie "Milk"? Sean Penn was stunning in that movie and Phillip Seymour Hoffman in "Doubt" did an amazing job as well...although I was not fond of the movie.
I voted for Heath Ledger because I do think he will most likely win it...however does he truly deserve it? That I don't know.
And to answer your question, YES, Ledger does deserve the statue. He brought something entirely new to the role and enfused it with a depraved wickedness that made you forget all the other Jokers who came before him. Every time he was on the screen the other actors melted into his background, even The Batman. He helped drive this superhero film close to earning its own nom for Best Picture. But then, there were so many things that made TDK a real standout. For me it was one of the best films of the year and Ledger's performance was riveting and will long be remembered, at least IMHO.
