I went out just before dark to get my mail. I noticed two bright yellow daffodils had bloomed. I love daffodils and have them naturalized in six places in my yard. I know spring isn't far away when they start to bloom.
A volunteer plan to beautify the roads planted hundreds of daffodils along the major street at the end of my block. They haven't started sprouting yet. Isn't it amazing the difference in not even 100 yards can make? When they do start to bloom, as I drive to turn on my street there are daffodils in about a 6" area along the road for several blocks, hundreds and hundreds of blooms. It will get prettier as the years go by and they spread. The first year, none of my immediate neighbors knew about it. All we knew was suddenly we had the beautiful blooms along the road. It took me a lot of calls to find out who was responsible. The next year they planted farther down the road. It makes me happy to see all the flowers. I'm looking forward to see if anything was added this year.
Spring and daffodils go together in my mind. Both make me happy.
