It's not exactly February weather, so I should be happy. It could be 5 degrees out, with 3 feet of snow. Wait.. wait.. yep, that was last week. The weather has been getting warmer. Yesterday, it was gorgeous. Of course it wouldn't last. As of this morning, the weather is only about 10 degrees cooler. However, that 10 degrees makes a huge difference when it's coupled with rain.
I walked the kids to school in the rain, going all the way there this time. I have decided that having only two umbrellas in the house isn't going to work. Raegan was out the door before I was fully awake, and I didn't realize it was raining. She never asked for an umbrella, so the poor kid walked almost a mile to school in the rain without an umbrella. She must have been soaked!
I found one useable, but broken umbrella (one of the spines isn't attached to the umbrella itself, but it worked enough to keep me dry), and one non-broken umbrella. I know those are the only two we have. Once Spring officially arrives, the weather will be rainy far more often, and since the kids typically walk when the weather is nicer, I think they all need an umbrella.
In the past, this was never a problem, because they were always on the bus. Not this year, though. I'm going to check around for some cheap umbrellas, and carabiner hooks (I can get those at Dollar Tree), and hook a compact umbrella up to the inside of each of their backpacks.
That way, everyone has one for days like today.

the umbrella idea is a good one
If not, you could go to the place you get your eye glasses. They have tubing they put on the edges of certain sunglass clips so they don't scratch the lens or on the bows of the glasses to make them more comfortable. They probably wouldn't even charge you for a small piece of it (mine didn't). Pull the fabric through the tubing first and the attach it to the spine. Then, take your blow dryer and melt the plastic tubing down. It will snug up to the fabric/spine and you'll have a working umbrella again! :)
And I got cold just reading about poor little Raegan walking in the rain!!Poor thing!
On the plus side, Nick came home early today, so we went to get some running around done, and found 3 nicer umbrellas at Dollar Tree (they had price tags from Big Lots at $3.50 each). I got 3 different ones- a plain black, a zebra stripe, and a leopard spot one. I figured Chris can have the plain black, then Raegan already picked the leopard print, leaving the zebra print for Gillian.
