Some people seem to ask silly questions over and over again. Questions like, "Where's the change?" which I assume are being asked by people with a built-in agenda because the change has been rapid, transparent and long overdue. How anyone can, in any way, not see change, in my opinion, can only be attributed to two things: A closed mind so stuffed with GOP talking points, bumper sticker slogans and fear that it has no room left for reality injections...or...a person who lacks the basic mental acuity one requires to tie shoestrings due to a physical, emotional or intellectual...umm...challenge.
So I will select one and only one example of the change I speak about, President Obama promised and people applauded. I did not choose the closing of Gitmo, stopping of torture or basic improvement of the United State's status world-wide because those are things most people who give a damn all know about. My example will be the President's establishment of the President's Economic Recovery Advisory Board. Now I know PERAB rhymes with ARAB and might scare the baccy spittin' NRA members in the deep south (statewide ammunition shortage in Florida after sales of ammo went up 300%)...but so does black people so we'll just pretend they're not members of my target audience.
Let's step back to...you know...that other guy. I apologize (and understand why you might cringe), but it's necessary to show change. You do recall, I hope, that despite being warned by the Clinton Administration that terrorism in general and Bin Laden in particular would be of serious concern to the incoming filthy group of greed driven criminals while they "hung out" at the White House between his resting periods at Camp David...the immoral "decider" couldn't be bothered to hold a single cabinet level meeting on counter terrorism until one week before 9/11. Nice touch. Jan. 20th to Sept. 11th. Our threat was then terrorism, he knew it, he had the "Osama will strike the US" warning before the attack, and he did...umm...nothing.
Now today's threat is more economic in nature. Sure, I know terrorism is still a threat. It has been for a long time. But our last guy solved that by having us remove shoes at airports and considering building a 300 mile fence on a 1,960 mile border that spans 4 US and 6 Mexican states. He also supported amnesty for the illegals already here. But I digress. How has this threat been treated by United State's President Barack Hussein Obama (Sorry...I love to hear it)? Did he ignore it? After all, he's been in office less than a month and, clearly, he's been busy. And by busy, I don't mean clearing brush on some ranch in Texas. Well we can see that he has already been working hard on a stimulus package. But, not being an expert on everything, he has...brace yourself...surrounded himself with people who do know something about all this.
"The PERAB shall consist of not more than 17 members, who shall be appointed by the President from among distinguished citizens from outside the Government who are qualified on the basis of achievement, experience, independence, and integrity. The overall membership of the PERAB shall reflect a diverse set of perspectives from across the country and from various sectors of the economy. The President shall designate a Chair from among the members."
Change people. PERAB is called an advisory Board. We can all see here what's being sought is advice! That's change, but only one small aspect of it. The other is seeking experience. I recall a good friend of Georgie's getting to head FEMA and "help" New Orleans with no experience. Change! He calls here for Independence too. Change! Of course, he also seeks integrity; something this country has longed for for quite some time now. Change. Not fear, as has been demonstrated over and over by the same hypocrites who called people traitors for opposing bush, Jr., but now have no issue opposing President Obama who inherited an economic maelstrom and two wars.
Change. Thank you Mr. President.

That made me laugh, but really should make me cry because there are those that will actually link the 2.
Oh, I don't need convincing. I also didn't expect a miracle overnight. I believe you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned "close-minded."
The key is what stuff is getting done!

PERAB? What is that an Arabic Pervert? LOL
I home this committee does not turn into another beauracacy we have way too many of those now.
How about some Real change like proposing legislation to dump all of the laws that made the President unaccountable, the ones that took away our rights, and the one that gave the President authorization to declare martian law for no reason at all. How about dumping Homeland Security and a few others. How about getting rid of the Patriot Act and all the little Acts that support it. How about a difinitive program to export all of the Illegal Aliens that have invaded our country.
No he wants to spend his time on a sales trip for something he already knows is going to pass.
(sorry, couldn't resist)
Yes, in a little over a month we've seen massive changes and there is much more to come. The only thing is that the GOP can't see anything but their colons at this point. I heard people this morning all over the news criticizing Geithner's 'lack of detail' in his speech. Obama seemingly can't win - he gives detail, he gets criticized for being too 'elitist' and 'boring' - 'stick to the big points, Prez'. When his guys stick to the 'big points', they get criticized for too little detail. I also heard them being criticized for not having the economic plan in place sooner - then they get criticized for not giving more time to pass the economic stimulus bill.
Personally, I would just love to tell everyone to STFU and let them do their jobs. If I turn on C-Span one more time and see some lunatic Republican with a graphic showing how many zeros there are in a figure, or how high a stack of $1 bills will be, I will shoot my TV. We are now seeing the idiots in all their true glory - they are making total asses out of themselves. I say, screw them. If after all this work of trying to collaborate and compromise, they continue their idiocy, then just more ahead without their nod of approval. Who wants the approval of idiots anyway?
Great article, Doyle.
Setting up advisory panels of experts that the President will actually consult with and listen to??
Trying to place competent people in positions, while charging them to do the work that is outlined in the agency's mission statements?
Change?
A president who steps down from the lofty stage and talks to people in public gatherings?
A president who is Blackberry and YouTube competent?
A president who is actually encouraging transparency and accountability with regards to government's dispersal of money??
You call that Change??
Yeah, me too !!
Col., at least, finally, we get to see who is advising and we get to see a President being advised. Not like the energy advice the other got, when he didn't even want the public to know who knocked on his doors. Surely you realize the prior policy was to avoid independent policy analysis and to root out any person who offered an impartial analysis that was not consistent with the predetermined outcome. The trend there was clearly to find facts to support the decision, not to find facts to make a decision with! My point is that THAT is a significant change.
"PERAB? What is that an Arabic Pervert? LOL"
Perfect! You're the first buddy! :o)
"I home this committee does not turn into another beauracacy we have way too many of those now. "
I agree.
"How about some Real change like proposing legislation to dump all of the laws that made the President unaccountable, the ones that took away our rights..."
Now that the Democrats hold the top job...I assumed the GOP would be calling for that already. Clearly, by closing Gitmo and reviewing the orders that that other guy signed, he's thinking along those lines too...and I agree, they need to go. Luckily, I'm not worried about President Obama abusing his power. The GOP can just sweat it out until we see what he decides after the review is completed...like we sweated as the other guy continued signing more rights away by presidential proclamation as though he was some sort of Roman emperor. I think we'll see that happen...and like you, I want to see it happen.
"...and the one that gave the President to declare martian law for no reason at all. "
HAHAHAHahahaaa! Typos can be SO much fun! *Snicker* Seriously though, you're misinformed. Martial law was not permitted to be declared 'for no reason at all'. I will, however, concede that the filthy lil man that left the White House could have easily made one up.
"How about doing getting rid of the Patriot Act and all the little Acts that support it."
Umm. He cannot veto something passed by both houses of Congress and signed into law. That actually goes to your earlier points...of undoing the damage already done and we have a lot of work to do. Right now...it's trouble enough getting the morally bereft GOP to realize they can do more than obstruct progress. They can help heal this country. You may have noticed...Congress has a priority right now with the economy.
"How about a difinitive program to export all of the Illegal Aliens that have invaded our country."
Dream on. That's not even physically possible.
"No he wants to spend his time on a sales trip for something he already knows is going to pass. "
Don't be purposely obtuse, Col. We both know that the sales trip was needed and the efforts to allow GOP input was needed and the political opportunities are more than the sum total of the cost of the trip inasmuch as it does provide President Obama with valuable interaction and the possiblity of change and contacts that might be valuable in the future. What is the downside? Nothing. I realize you were prefer to see him run onto the Senate floor and beg them to remove all the power that other guy was given, but I'm thinking he's doing a lot and he's doing it well. Don't forget his predecessor..."According to an August 2003 article in the Washington Post, President Bush has spent all or part of 166 days during his presidency at his Crawford, Texas, ranch or en route. Add the time spent at or en route to the presidential retreat of Camp David and at the Bush family estate in Kennebunkport, Maine, and Bush has taken 250 days off as of August 2003. " (That's when he wasn't trampling on the Constitution.) So, it's a tad too soon to criticize the decisions he's making about how he plans to get things done...even before they're implemented or fully sold.
...And it's rediculous to think people cannot see change.
Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~
Paul...I believe most people really did know this would not be quick, easy or without sacrifice. I think the people who would always detest President Obama are merely using anything they can to run down any effort to heal this country by calling out criticism, including the "What change?". Those people are teeming for a memo from the GOP for something to hop on...they currently, sadly, look like lost souls with no direction...

When Daschle withdrew Obama apologized on national TV and said that he took full responsibility. I think that's more admissions of having made a mistake than the other guy made in 8 years.
Like a lot of the conservative critics, I'm disappointed that he hasn't walked (very far, anyway) on water or turned water into wine. My loaves and fishes seem to have been lost in the mail. :) I still like him.
Not necessarily.
"Where's the change?"
Yeah. Where is it? It's been less than a month, I expected the US to be out of debt already! And the economy on the rise again! Sheesh! Don't you people see what he's doing for us??? He hasn't CHANGED quick enough! *Sigh* Silly president.
Yeah. Where is it? It's been less than a month, I expected the US to be out of debt already! And the economy on the rise again! Sheesh! Don't you people see what he's doing for us??? He hasn't CHANGED quick enough! *Sigh* Silly president.
Afterall, instant gratification is the name of the game! I want my American Idol, now!!!
Contrary to the GOP talking heads, the air in Washington is cleaner than it has been for eight long years.
I'm gladja caught that, Doyle! I bet they all done passed Al-Gebra too!
PS: I heard Harry Potter was born in Hawaii. ;o)
Another great insight. Think about it--do you remember any reference in Harry Potter to passports or immigration controls? Hell, they all just jump on their bloody broomsticks or grab a portkey or apparate to wherever they want. They could have been born anywhere. Clearly, not only does the series promote witchcraft and godlessness, it's propaganda for the One World Government!!! Conclusion: people who read (let alone write) long books are probably not good Americans, or not Americans at all.
.... keyboard, Doyle... snorting water is NOT good for my keyboard kiddo!
PS: I heard Harry Potter was born in Hawaii. ;o)
*snicker, snicker* Doyle it isn't nice to bait the intellectually challenged!
I guess taking a whole month to try and fix 8 years worth of crap just isn't fast enough for some folk.
I don't know about being slammed because I live in Florida, but I guess I can live with it

I am just going to start slapping people who dont get it.
I was at another thread and they were complaining about the cuts in the stimulus and how people are considered pork and got cut.
So I point out that they were trying to appease the moderate Repubs so that is why the $1000/$500 got cut to $800/$400.
And then they went on to complain that only big business will get the money.
Do they have a thought...ever?
Honestly.
...And yet I epected no less. Amazing some can't see it as clearly, eh?
"...aside from some of the little substantive things he's done through executive orders..."
Like making the illegal use of torture a thing of the past? "...is his understanding that media can be his friend."
Well...I hope he realizes that may be specious.
"When Daschle withdrew Obama apologized on national TV and said that he took full responsibility."
What a FINE moment! You're right. The people don't want perfection but the sneering contempt for the rule of law and the rediculous inability to admit errors obvious to school children is very frustrating. The man at the top, finally, is responsible fro what the Executive branch does!
Thanks Nippy...always a pleasure to hear from you!

And, besides all the doo-doo that was put into the so-called stimulus bill, there's that thing about healthcare attached to it. Have you looked at that at all?

You did hear he couldn't swim, either, eh?

"For what? Not stimulus."
Uh huh.
"For establishing every liberal program they've wanted for the last years. "
WOOO HOOO! The ONE thing the last guy did was allow us that! Thanks Georgie!
"There is no rush but he pretends there is."
HAHAHAHAHahahahaaa! You clearly haven't suffered like so many others...skyrocketing unemployment and home foreclosures don't affect you personally...that you know of yet. He's not alone pretending the economy needs help and needs it now! YOU. You're practically alone in that thought. ...And THAT'S why the GOP will be in the cheap seats for a long, long, looong time!
"And, besides all the doo-doo that was put into the so-called stimulus bill..."
There's doo doo? Thanks for being specific. I expected nothing less.
"...there's that thing about healthcare attached to it. Have you looked at that at all? "
Yes! There, my friend, we DO agree. Until every US Citizen can walk into any hospital, anywhere, and get free medical care...it's not enough. But i forgive him...he has to deal with the GOP. One step at a time sugarbritches...one step at a time!

for a time in a LONG time, our citizenry is paying attention. The general population of our nation was either too lazy or disconcerned (or too afraid) about what was happening within our government when the Other Guy and his pack of bandits were in office.
Is there "change" going on? ABSO-F*CKING-LUTELY. And the best part of it is happening in our own neighborhoods.
Give it up we won get over it!
I don't expect Obama to solve all my problems, even the ones that are possible for government to solve. I do appreciate having someone in charge who can admit to mistakes and isn't afraid to talk to the press. After Clinton, smart and capable but arrogant, and Bush stupid and ineffective but arrogant, it's refreshing to see someone who appears to be smart and not arrogant in office. We'll see about the capable as things develop.
"Eric, put some clothes on."
I love Gather.
WEll, Nippy, I really don't think there's anything miraculous about a stimulus plan. Simple goal - to keep people in their present jobs and to create new ones. Tax cuts do not create new jobs. I don't care what the GOP says. The tax cuts Bush put into effect early in his tenure did nothing but put more money in the off-shore accounts of the rich so that they can still afford luxury homes and other amenities right now while everyone else is getting f*cked. Did you see the new penthouses of the bank CEOs'? Yeah, they really have a clue. They're not out to create more jobs with tax cuts - they're out to cut expenses, pocket profits and see how much you can squeeze out of the people who actually still WORK for a living.
The same people that are trying to prevent President Obama from fixing it. ;o)
Wow. Nice summary! :o)

Yeah. That's gonna happen. Nice try Don!
Actually, that seriously pissed me off. Not that it happened...or that it did anything to his family. That stuff is his business, not mine. What angered me most was that it gave the loons ammunition and really cut down on the power he had before that.

What annoys me the most is the constant correlation of his administration's efforts and the damned Dow Jone's, by the media and some of the conservative pundits. Did they know that the Dow was at 14066 in October of 2007, while the sub-prime crisis was about to explode like the holy hand grenade of Antioch? The DOW then was no positive indicator of the year (2008) to come anymore than it is now a negative indicator of 2010.
But the conservatives for change will keep using the stock market as some kind oracle of delphi.
