This school year, I started attending a Community Bible Study. It's an inter-denominational Bible study (this one is for women & kids but I guess they offer mens studies in some areas as well) and we are going through the book of Matthew.

My kids go to their own classes and children starting in 1st grade and up learn the same lesson as the moms, but at their level. These are all homeschooled kids because it's weekday mornings. Anyway, my daughter has daily homework to do, just like I do. But, every day when we start to do it, she only wants to read enough to find the answer to the question instead of reading the whole area of scripture (which isn't much - she just likes the easy way out.)
Well, my husband had a GREAT idea tonight and it worked so well! We have the book of Matthew on video. It's word for word what the Bible says (NIV Version). In about 15 minutes she had watched her area of scripture and answered her questions... and then sat there another 45 minutes watching it until we had to turn it off to get ready for bed. We were both amazed that it captured her attention so much. Then she was upset because she didn't have more time to watch it after bath.
Now I'm going to have to find out if they ever did any other areas of scripture like this! I know they did the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke & John) but I don't know if anything else was ever done.
I thought I'd share this in case anyone else hadn't thought of this idea. What I love is that the videos do not take liberty with dramatizing. They are, literally, word for word scripture. You can pull out your NIV and read right along and find it exactly the same.
