President Barack Hussein Obama (D-44) held a town Hall meeting in Fort Myers, FL on February 10, 2009.
His favorability rating was well represented. I found the whole meeting interesting. Below are a few thoughts on highlights that I found most memorable.
--
During crowd interaction after his speech, President "That One" stepped down from his American pedestal and ministered to one of the poor and suffering.
President 44 embraced Ms. Henrietta Hughes; an American who used her chance at the town hall, national stage microphone to plead the plight of her family.
It sounded like they actually are living in the most dire straits.
It was HUGE moment.
The only thing I wish is that The Messiah hadn't said "but."
The word "but" is a stinkingly obvious caveat to whatever your words have said or promised. It leaves a dangling air of un-commitment around a face of caring.
"But" is avoided by shrewd politicians of all stripes.
The proper response is: "Someone will talk to you and we will see what we can do." Maybe throw in an "I feel your pain."
This is a positive emotive response, that shows caring, promises action, and allows whatever room is needed to be fair, just and within the law.

I expect that Julio the McDonald's Student will benefit from the trail that Joe The Plumber blazed.
Julio was a hit as he stood "peaking" on the experience of speaking to 44. With hi background, I expect Julio will make a perfect poster child for the American Promise of rewarding working students. generations have been raised on: that working hard AND better your education IS rewarded.
Go Julio !!

44's Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Plan
--
There don't seem to be any bridges to no where in Obama's plan. All the roads and bridges that are slated for funding seem to be well established, regularly used roads to the important somewheres in our country.
Billions of dollars are slated for the states to help bolster public programs that are managed at the state level; unemployment, education, transportation, infrastructure, etc.

President Obama made a point of talking about re-training options for the workforce. This is such an important note. Re-training displaced and out placed workers to in-demand fields does not just stimulate the economy, but re strengthens the foundation with employment options that can remain viable for years.
One important side-effect of note is that education and re-education is an industry that employees many Americans. Teachers, textbooks, computers, paper, pencils, building maintenance, etc, are all areas of employment among the masses.
And another is that options that support training masses to meet industry's needs and wants id fully beneficial to industry, capitalism and the economy; as well as national and social concerns.
The best thing America can have is industry that pays to be done here. Industries that can fully benefit from not having to you ship goods across oceans or large landmasses.

President Obama's comparison of American transportation systems with those of the world's stage was a true show of America's infra structural ranking in the modern world.
We are woefully behind.
Other nations, such as China, have public transportation systems that are decades ahead of what we Americans deal with. The reason for this is not a lack of money. I would guess that we have had the largest and most vigorous economy in the world for over a hundred years. The reason these things have not been built is simply the lack of desire by the country's money holders. They have not been interested in making sure that America's infrastructures stayed on par with technological advancement.
Disneyland has had a monorail since 1970's (?). Seattle has had one since (????). The only thing lacking has been the desire of leaders to make it happen.
The past proves that we have the technology. Now it's time to find the will. The improvements in infrastructure will increase the speed with which goods can be transported while also reducing costs. It takes less energy to move a monorail train than it does to move a rail car or semi truck. Cheaper and faster is Always good for business.
--
For the record: I know this recovery and reinvestment plan will do some good; therefore, I hope that it passes and reaches the President's desk.
Here are cheers towards hopes and efforts for a slowing of the recession.
Peace To All --

Both the rock star and campaign venues would have required the booking of a stadium, with professional sound and lighting crews.
Acting like a rock star? What planet are you from? He has been on the job since the day after the election.
For 8 freaking years we had an a$$hole who wouldn't go near people, even if the DID vote for him, unless they were part of the good, ol' boy rich bitch crowd. Now we have a leader who isn't afraid to get out and see what's going on and even *gasp* talk to the down and out.
I have concerns about elements of the stimulus package and would have liked to hear the specifics listed rather than "They key items blocking agreement have been addressed." The conference told us absolutely nothing.
Obama, far from touring the country like a rock star, is doing what Ronald Reagan did to such great effect: he is going over the heads of the Republicans in Congress and enlisting the support of the American people for his program.
I think he's doing a fine job of it, too. (Of course, some will continue to oppose him because he wants to use government to actually provide services and support to the people.)
I hope we as a country can see that it would make the world so much better.
He is working. Traveling to Indiana and Florida is "using the bully pulpit" to push his agenda. He is taking back the PR lead, after republicans had shown some success in "framing" the stimulus bill as a spending bill.
"He has been on the job since the day after the election.//For 8 freaking years we had an a$$hole who wouldn't go near people...."
Yep. It's called leadership - something that has been missing (AWOL) for eight previous years.
"I just don't like the man. Something about him just rubs me the wrong way. It isn't racial or political.....not sure what it is."
Probably says more about you than him, regardless of what "it" is. At any rate, "it" is irrelevant. Policy and issues are the point. That may be a difficult concept, but try and focus. Administrative and congressional decisions - that's what counts.
We have a President that is for the people not the top 10%.
We are woefully behind.
Truer words were never spoken - it's an embarrassment....Great article, Bill - thank you and I wish President Obama well. I would like to know what each person griping about Obama plans to do to improve their country, because it takes everyone to make a country great - not just a bunch of folks who sit around waiting for someone else to do something. Update:

With these two "out of town" visits, 44 shows that being a "People's President" was not just some empty campaign ploy; and that it will be how he runs his presidency.
The persona 44 is projecting leaves the impression that he is the type of leader who might have help on the ground before any hurricanes hit.
I'm sold on 44's Recovery and Reinvestment Package. From what details I've been able to understand, passage of this would help a lot of people, quite a bit.
Having it baldly presented and re-presented helps the idea sink into people's minds that any negative associations implied by others regarding 44's middle name is nothing but stupid rhetoric.
Ya know, I was half expecting security to remove Ms. Hughes from the meeting; or for some of the other attendees to "boo" her. Gratefully, I can't wait to see how 44 (and his followers) will continue to disappoint the low expectations that 43 (and his followers) programmed into me.
I've been thinking that if we could offset some of the need from all of those with true need, with some of the excess that all of those who truly have excess own, then I think we'd more than solve the nation's problems.
Pork (like earmarks) are generally defined as semi-irrelevant items that only target some congress person's local pet projects. Please do us a favor and point out which parts of this bill are pork?
5% of $720 billion is $36 billion; which to my mind equals "something;" which is vastly better than nothing.
With the economy in the dire state that it is in, paying down the national debt seems pretty unlikely if we just leave things as they are. At least the 44th administration is including oversight, spending curbs and budgetary reduction measures for government expenditures within this bill. Money will be both made and saved if this bill passes.
