8 Arrested Michael Phelps Bong Photo

WIS (the NBC affiliate in Columbia, SC) reports 8 people have been arrested in connection with the now infamous Michael Phelps bong photo. The Michael Phelps bong photo has become apparently SO important that Sheriff Leon Lot has hunted down 8 individuals in connection to the NOVEMBER party, including the owner of the bong – who was not even at said party!

This seems like a huge miscarriage of justice, manpower and time, right? I mean, all the fallout of the Michael Phelps bong photo have already trickled through the public consciousness and damned him to the loss of endorsement deals. And to arrest a kid who was not even at the party – that just seems overkill.

Or does it? The kid in question apparently was trying to sell what is probably the most famous bong in history. On Ebay no less. And for no less than 100K!

Now I know our country has raised us all to make the quick buck when we can, but selling the key evidence in the Michael Phelps bong photo on a public forum canÂ’t exactly be called bright in my book.

So in my mind, theyÂ’re arresting the kid whose bong it was not for having said bong, but for being stupid. Unequivocally so. And that type of stupidity needs to be punished. Preferably with stones and a mob. Or maybe some honey and ants. Yeah, that would teach himÂ…

Who in there right mind would buy a bong for $100k?! I definitely do not condone pot usage, but the owner needed to be nabbed for just plain stupidity!

Is owning a bong actually illegal? I thought it was just the stuff you put in it that got you in trouble. Poor greedy bastard!!

ROFLMBO!!!! I'm not sure exactly who the most laughter should be directed at.... Sheriff Leon Lot (come on... is NOTHING else happening in that town!!) or the owner of the bong (eBay, Baby!). Maybe I'm laughing at the person who sold the original pic... bet that fool never gets invited to another party! Oh my...

What was worse is that when interviewed by ESPN the Sheriff noted that his "Narcotics Division" was looking into it .... Narcotics?????

Kudos to the guy trying to sell the bong...absolutely stupid, but kudos.

I don't think they've even figured out who the guy who took the picture is. It was him who probably got the bong owner thinking he could make some cash. Ah, kids. How else will they learn except through felonies?

Boy... too bad they aren't so quick arresting child molesters or something. I thought you could buy a bong anywhere at some head shop or smoke shop? Maybe each state is different?

Charges against anyone is ridiculous. Just because it's a bong and can be used for smoking pot...doesn't mean that's necessarily what was going on. They could have been smoking regular tobacco. Rolling papers can be used the same way, as can a pipe. I would think they'd have to actually be caught with marijuana to make the charges stick; not based on speculation. It's totally legal to possess paraphernalia as long as it's not used and there's no trace of pot (or any other drug) found on it. I'd be fighting this case big time and making the law enforcement officials come up with proof. The only one who should be facing charges is the owner of the bong...and only if there are trace of pot found on it after use.

No, Donna, the paraphenalia (sic?) is not illegal. After extensive research (by my interns of course) I learned paraphenalia (sic again?) is alright because it's supposed to be for tobacco and not pot. Because every cigarette smoker out there wants to inhale their little piece of heaven from a bong, not through a filter.
