This is a poem I originally wrote almost 30 years ago and have re-written it several times until it was what I wanted. As you can guess, it's basically a children's poem but since most of us have childlike qualities and attributes in us, I thought you might enjoy this.
FAIRYTALES AND UNICORNS
Close your eyes and soar with me
on rainbow wings through magic doors
where fairytales and unicorns
and dreams of knights and maids
come to life before your eyes
as we fly away to worlds unknown
where tales of wondrous wizards
and pirates on the open seas
give way to King Arthur's Camelot
and castles in the air
Escape with me, my little friend,
on a journey to the land of story time
through hidden doors and passageways,
where mystic woods and talking trees
delight our minds with wonder
as secret gardens and flying dragons
send our imaginations soaring
on whispering winds above the clouds
to enchanted worlds of make believe
and what might lie around the bend
Fly with me, my precious one,
to places only found in dreams
and in the woven tales of storybooks
where fairytales and unicorns
live in those who can imagine them
and carry us on rainbow wings
to lands of Oz and Mother Goose,
the Brothers Grimm and nursery rhymes,
Hans Christian Anderson and lullabies
that carry us until the morning star arrives
Come with me to story time
and what is hidden just beyond the page -
where fairytales and unicorns
and dreams of knights and maids
come to life before your eyes
as we fly away to worlds unknown
where tales of wondrous wizards
and pirates on the open seas
give way to King Arthur's Camelot
and castles in the air
