Just some random bits and pieces I've written lately (and not so much lately.)
Number One:
It was said that they would band together to maintain some semblance of peace. Each from a different world. Each with the strengths to rule the universe upon one hand and the powerful weakness to destroy it clenched in the other. Each would come with a unique key to help the others, if they could only find them. Once found, they would have to face the world at their best, and worst. It wasn’t prophesied that one day they would band together to make the world a better place and save us all. Only that there would be darkness and light, good and evil, death and life. All at its own time, in its own way. The only thing left to do was hope.
Number Two:
"Father, I can't believe you're sticking me with another one of them. You should know what will end up happening by now." Zak said as he followed his father down Level Six's main hall. "First they'll act all nice and friendly, then they'll slowly start to despise the fact that they are stuck playing babysitter to me. Someone who really does not want or need a babysitter. I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself by now, Father."
"First of all, Zakaran, as you very well know, this is not just a matter of whether or not you can take care of yourself. With your mother and me in the positions we are holding, you need someone who will keep your safety in mind and focus on keeping you safe, not babysitting you and entertaining you. Secondly, I have been assured that this DP, though a bit more rebellious, is one of the best of the Tops. I have been assured you will be perfectly safe under their watch." As they continued down the hallway towards the Meeting Center, Zak could see a group of people all standing in a tight circle.
Based on their clothing, Zak assumed them all to be DP's. With the typical light gray pants, blue jacket shirts with high collars, and the brown belt that held their Com's and weapons. They were all circled around one person, Zak noticed as they drew closer. As his father approached the circle, it broke apart and turned into one straight line. His father walked up and shook the hand of the Top Lead of the group. As they chatted, Zak slowly started inching backwards, towards the door that led to the Kitchen. As he reached the door without his father or the Top Lead noticing, he reached out, typed in the entrance code, and slipped inside, free from everything that had happened so far that morning. While he managed to get away without his father and the Top Lead noticing, he managed to catch the attention of one DP, who quietly snuck away from the group to follow him, although the DP had to go a slightly more roundabout way to the Kitchen.
As she snuck through the ventilation system, working her way into the Kitchen, Dez wondered, not for the first time, just who she pissed off so badly to get stuck with this job. The official description of the current job was that she was the sole DP assigned to keep Zakaran Calvini, son of Cameron and April Calvini, out of trouble and alive. Essentially it boiled down to babysitting the little brat until his parents found something more suitable for him to do, other than run around with free access to essentially the entire station. She hated brats like him and hated having to “keep an eye on them” even more. They were always the same, every single one she had come into contact with so far in her life. They were rude, uppity, selfish, childish, and temperamental to boot. She watched her latest charge through the vent looking down into the Kitchen with little interest and even less worry. He didn’t seem like the kind who could get into too much trouble in a kitchen. Especially with four other people around.
“Ah, sneaking away from your father again, Zak?” He jumped and spun around as a tall, skinny man tapped his shoulder with a ladle. Zak had a sheepish grin on his face as he nodded and looked around to see who else was in the Kitchen with him. Seeing only faces he could trust, he explained the situation.
“Uh, hey, Mitch. Yeah, I’m trying to keep a low profile from them until I can think for a bit. I suppose you heard what happened this morning?”
“Yeah, I heard the news, but you know how it is. By the time it’s gone between three people it’s already wrong. According to what I heard you nearly blew up the entire west wing of the research building. But that’s just exaggeration, right?” Mitch asked as he turned back to the stove he was working at, not noticing the look of embarrassment on Zak’s face.
“Actually, I did kinda almost blow it up.”
Number Three:
On a soft bed in a dark room she didn't recognize, Brianna slowly woke up. Cold, alone, and missing three very precious items. The ring, her dagger, and Cristna. As she slowly awoke, she tried to figure out where she was and why. About how she got there, there was no doubt. The ambush had been brilliantly planned, she hadn't suspected a single thing. Waiting until she had traveled so long she was exhausted and had nothing in her left to fight back. They had to have been the ones who had been following her since she left Newburn months ago. There was no doubt in her mind about that. She thought she had finally lost them, but obviously she hadn't. The only reason they managed to capture her, judging by how well they kept themselves hidden and how incredibly unstealthy they were, was because she had used up all of her energy. That's what she got for trying to help the villagers. The only thing she couldn't figure out, other than where exactly she was, was why in the world they abducted her. Of all the Users in the world, why her? It had to have been a mistake.
Brianna could sense that the ring was close, maybe in a room accessed by one of the many doors she could see. She would just have to get up and check them out, she needed that ring. At least for one last time, then there would be enough power in her to call at will. Hopefully. The thin blanket wrapped around her shoulders did little to keep away the chill in the air and she figured the sooner she got up and moving, the sooner she would warm up. Her shoes and jacket were sitting on a chair in the corner nearest the bed. As she put them on, the ring kept pulling at her senses, needing her as much as she needed it. Going door to door, first sensing inside and then looking, until she determined she couldn't reach the ring through this room, she cautiously opened the last door, the door to the hallway.
Neither sensing nor seeing a soul, Brianna crept out of the room and walked slowly down the hallway. Taking this opportunity to look around, she noticed many spectacular things in the place. The castle, she assumed that is what it was, was large, cold, and seemed very familiar. Continuing on her way, hoping to find the ring before she herself was caught again, she walked about two rooms down from the one she had woken in. There she found it. The ring of Enmulder. The ring that gave her the power to call until she had enough of her own experience to call at will. Now if only she could find her dagger and the door out of this castle, she would be set.

Brianna's bit is interesting... but as a reader I kinda what to know where she found the ring: was it just lying there waiting? I assumed if it was taken from her, it was taken by someone who didn't intend for her to find it just like that. But perhaps, as always, I am overthinking it -- and it is just a snippet, yo.
Glad you like the teaser, hehe.
