How many of you have been to one? The ONLY time I was at one, it was the last night the theater was going to be open. They were literally paving paradise to put up a parking lot. For years, the two screens stood in the middle of the parking lot. Yeah.
My dad took us, we brought our own snacks, and pillows and blankets. When we left, he stole our speaker- but so was everyone else. I don't remember what we saw, but I remember the experience. I also remember that when we looked out the back window, we saw the other movie playing, we just couldn't hear it.
It was a double feature, I remember that. I also remember that they were selling food at the concession stand cheap- like popcorn tubs for $.50, and hot dogs for a quarter. I walked with someone over and got a hot dog. I paid with my own quarter.
Last night, I was on Facebook- a site I rarely use, btw, and a chat box popped up. Now, not being a regular user, I wasn't used to that. I kinda wish there was a way to turn it off- I'm not a chat room, IM user type of person. I get frazzled too easily.
But, it was my cousin, who lives up north. We're close in age, and he was raised in the town one over from us. His older sister is my brother's age, so we were all thrown together quite a bit. Now, he, his mom, and his sister & her family all live up north.
Well, they're only 30 minutes away from one of the towns I want to take the kids camping to, Traverse City. He's been recommending things to do in the area, and brought up the Cherry Bowl- which is a drive in theater! It also has a mini golf attached to it, plus a playground for kids, and it only plays movies that are family friendly!
How cool is that? There's no price listed, but I think that'll have to be one of our evenings while we're up there.

Here they have movie nights at the local swimming pool sometimes, you all sit on big blow up inner tubes and watch films. I seem to remember they showed Jaws a year or two ago.
But I woke up during the beginning of Easy Rider. I immediately realized I wasn't supposed to be watching the movie by what was going on on screen. So I kept my mouth shut and hunched down under the blanket. Talk about an eye-opener. So that's what adults get up to!
This one won't show any movies over a PG-13 rating, but it said most are a G or PG rating.
I think that is a great idea to do with the kids.
We have one here in the Cincinnati area. Our church has all gone twice since we've been members, but for whatever reason, hubby and I didn't go. We will the next time. :)
The last time I was at a drive in was in college....between junior and senior year..
It was fun when I was a teenager though. ;)
I think your kids will love it, especially since they are all past the diaper and toddler stage. Make sure to take plenty of snacks, usually the concession area smells so good that it makes you really hungry... LoL.
Once we moved down here, we stopped going. |MY husband and I have gone once to one.
I've only been to a drive-in once & it was a triple feature, we stayed for 2 movies. I remember one of the movies was Tremors
I remember also, as a teenager, hiding pals in the trunk so they could get in free.
I still go to the drive-in occasionally.
