There's a "Phelps backlash" out there. Fans and sympathizers have issued a call to boycott Kellogg's, the cereal and snack megamanufacturer that dropped the Olympic swimmer's lucrative endorsement contract after his experience with marijuana became public a week ago.
Many believe that Kellogg's has profited for decades on the food tastes of marijuana-using Americans with the "munchies". What makes people mad is that Kellogg's knew he had a driving-under-the-influence charge when he was 19, and yet they still sponsored him.
Who made Kellogg's the moral police since they continuously advertise sugary foods to children? Is this boycott further proof that people are getting tired of this prohibition mentality?
Yes, Phelps smoked it. But Michael Phelps has not gone to pot just yet. I give him a pass on this one although he must have been stoned to allow someone to take a picture of him hitting the bong.
